Software Engineering Director

We are seeking an accomplished engineering leader with deep expertise in system architecture, software and firmware development to lead our cross-functional team through the full cycle of consumer product innovation. This role requires someone who can seamlessly bridge technical and leadership domains—driving technical strategy, hands-on development, and cross-team collaboration with both internal teams and partner organizations.

Job Description

Overview

• Lead the architecture, design, and full-cycle development of consumer products, overseeing software and firmware teams from concept through production.
• Facilitate and lead technical meetings covering software, firmware, and system architecture with internal engineering teams and external partners.
• Evaluate, prototype, and integrate third-party SDKs into our system architecture (software and firmware stacks); deliver proof-of-concept implementations.
• Work closely onsite with partner engineering teams, acting as the primary technical liaison.
• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team including software and firmware engineers; play a key role in recruiting and building the team from the ground up.
• Collaborate with project managers, product managers, and cross-discipline stakeholders to deliver high-quality products on schedule.
• Develop and review technical documentation, architectural designs, and implementation strategies.
• Drive best practices in cross-platform application development and embedded systems integration.

Qualifications

Required Leadership Skills

• Extensive experience building, developing, and leading high-performing engineering teams, including hiring and organizational scaling from scratch.
• Exceptional communication, facilitation, and technical meeting leadership skills in both Mandarin and English (fluency required).
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional internal stakeholders and with external technical partners (including on-site partnerships).
• Strong project management skills with the ability to drive consensus, resolve conflict, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven track record of making architectural decisions and guiding teams through technical trade-offs.

Required Technical Skills

• Deep expertise in system architecture spanning firmware, embedded systems, and application software.
• Hands-on experience in full-cycle consumer product development.
• Advanced skillset in native and cross-platform applications for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows.
• Extensive experience working with Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), USB, Wi-Fi, multicast, and mDNS networking protocols.
• Practical experience with HTTP API integration.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including C, C++, Swift, and TypeScript.
• Demonstrated expertise with bare-metal (barebones) and RTOS firmware development.
• Ability to rapidly evaluate and integrate external SDKs and technology solutions.
