Summary

The Recreation Leader - Hamilton Creek Marina, Riverfront Park & Wasioto Park  is a full time Civil Service position in the Metro Parks and Recreation department.  The primary duties of this position consist of supporting the daily operation of Hamilton Creek Marina, Riverfront Park, and Wasioto Park by assisting with recreational facility use, permitted programs, special events, customer service, fee collection, recordkeeping, facility cleanliness, safety monitoring, and seasonal staff guidance. The position helps ensure that recreational facilities are safe, clean, organized, and accessible for patrons, program participants, permitted user groups, partner organizations, and the public.


*This position will be required to work weekends, and may be required to work overtime and/or other special events.*

Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 184 parks and 107 miles of greenway. Examples of duties
  • Provides professional and courteous customer service to patrons, program participants, permitted user groups, partner organizations, and the public by responding to inquiries and complaints by phone, email, or in person.
  • Coordinates permitted use and provides on-site support for approved recreational activities, including rowing, paddleboarding, sailing, BMX, mountain biking, and other assigned programs or facility uses.
  • Supports the operation of recreational and special events by assisting with setup, on-site operations, patron support, and take down.
  • Assists the manager in communicating with Metro Parks staff, Special Events, partner organizations, user groups, and dock contractors to support safe and organized recreational and boating activities.
  • Visits each assigned facility daily for safety and quality checks.
  • Provides on-site operational support to help ensure consistent, structured, and well-managed recreational programming and facility use.
  • Collects fees, processes payments, maintains related records, and assists with daily revenue-related tasks in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Maintains activity, attendance, facility-use, inspection, and other required records and reports.
  • Creates and tracks work orders as needed to support safe, clean, and functional recreational facilities.
  • Assists in completing, reviewing, and evaluating daily and monthly checklists for inspections, safety, facility conditions, and reporting.
  • Observes facility conditions, participant activity, and patron conduct to help ensure safety, order, and compliance with applicable rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Reports safety concerns, maintenance needs, policy concerns, patron issues, and operational problems to the manager or appropriate staff.
  • Maintains current safety certifications related to assigned facility operations, as required.
  • Performs light cleaning and facility upkeep duties to maintain restrooms, public areas, marina areas, and assigned facilities in a clean, safe, and presentable condition.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and reports supply needs to the manager.
  • Assists the marina manager with light facility maintenance and occasional dock adjustments.
  • Provides guidance and direction to seasonal employees at Hamilton Creek Marina and Wasioto Park as assigned, including communicating procedures, assigning routine tasks, delivering supplies, answering questions, and reporting performance or conduct concerns to the manager.
  • Uses Microsoft Office Suite, point-of-sale software, work order systems, and other department systems necessary to complete assigned duties.
QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 (one) year of experience coaching, organizing, or supervising recreational activities.

LICENSES REQUIRED:  Valid Driver License

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • Experience and knowledge of sailing, rowing and paddle sports
  • Experience and knowledge in commercial passenger vessel operations
  • Experience working in an aquatic/marina facility
  • Experience in permit processing and approving.
