SummaryThe City of Roanoke is seeking a Seasonal Maintenance Worker to perform routine maintenance tasks within Roanoke's Parks Division.  The successful candidate will do the following:

  • Park & Facility Maintenance: Clean and maintain park grounds, shelters, restrooms, and other amenities. Tasks include picking up trash, removing debris, repairing benches and tables, and performing light carpentry and concrete repair.
  • Landscape Work:Assist with general landscape maintenance, including cleaning courts, mowing, and handling materials like soil, mulch, and gravel.
  • Event Support:Help set up and break down for special events, ensuring the smooth operation of community activities.
  • Operate Tools & Equipment:Use power tools such as blowers, weed eaters, pressure washers, and painting equipment to maintain park spaces.
  • Assist with Loading & Unloading: Help with moving materials for various projects and repairs

Work is accomplished under the direction of Maintenance Technician III and/or IV.  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in performance of heavy manual work is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience.    Work 40 hours per week from April - January.

This is a non-exempt position. Examples of dutiesPerforms routine maintenance tasks within Roanoke's parks, athletic fields, landscaped areas, right of ways, horticultural plantings, and tree trimming.  Operates a variety of mowing equipment, edgers, string trimmers, blowers and other small power equipment;  marks and maintains athletic fields; plants, waters, and maintains flowers, shrubs and trees; assist with special event support; maintains playground and related facilities.  Work is accomplished under the direction of Maintenance Technician III and/or IV. QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in performance of heavy manual work is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
