This part-time position for a term of one year is in training to be a fully operational compliance investigator I, processing wage and hour complaints and inquiries received by the Division (hereinafter referred to as “cases”). This position is in training to conduct investigations for compliance with regulations and standards, and the position’s work involves identifying, collecting, analyzing, and summarizing evidence to determine if a violation has been, or is being, committed. This position is in training to review and analyze cases. This position is in training to determine how to conduct the case investigation and what action should be taken as a result. This position is in training to determine what information is required from the parties involved in the case. Parties involved may include claimants, employers, attorneys, employee and employer representatives and organizations. Within limits set by the specific process, the investigator is in training to decide what operation is required to carry out and complete the case investigation. At completion of the investigation, this position is in training to decide and write the appropriate determination, and orders all applicable wages, fines and penalties. The investigator’s determination is reviewed for accuracy, legal analysis, writing, etc., and then once approved, sent to the parties involved in the case. If the investigator’s determination is not appealed to the Division’s hearing officer, it is considered the Division’s final agency decision. The investigator’s determinations are subject to review through the Division’s appeals process and the Colorado court system. During and after the case investigation, this position is required to collect and maintain all relevant case documentation.
This position is in training to provide education to claimants and their representatives, employer and business organizations, and other private and public/governmental entities within the State of Colorado. This position is in training to and may provide outreach and presentations to the community regarding rights and responsibilities when a request is received and approved by management.

Case Investigation (In Training)
This position is in training to investigate cases filed and application of the appropriate law. This position must remain neutral during an investigation. This position is in training to analyze information, plans and conducts investigations, including such activities as determining what information is needed and gathering it, assesses the severity of the violation (if any), and executes a determination. As a result of the investigation, this position is in training to decide what the appropriate determination is, and all applicable fines and penalties; these decisions are then approved by the designated Division management and/or Compliance Investigator II. The determination issued by this position may result in a hearing in front of the Division’s administrative law judge.
This position is in training to determine what the appropriate investigatory method is, and goes forward using the established policies, procedures, and guidance promulgated by the Division. This position is in training to gain comprehensive knowledge of the required duties to determine whether the case investigation is completed correctly and timely. This position is in training to analyze, and recommend clarifications and improvements to the Division’s policies and procedures. This position is in training to be responsible for managing data related to case investigations to report to management and others as needed.
This position is in training to analyze the proper application of statutes and Division policies and procedure pursuant to state and federal laws. This position is in training to refer to Colorado labor law statutes, rules, and regulations to obtain information for the resolution of issues. This position is in training to refer claimants not covered to other governmental agencies for assistance when necessary. This position is in training to maintain contact with the interested parties throughout the case investigation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Four (4) years of relevant experience in legal or academic writing or legal research. “Academic writing” includes work in college-level programs with a writing focus, e.g. literature or creative writing programs, but does not include academic programs to which writing is incidental.
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and/or relevant experience in legal or academic writing or legal research equal to four (4) years. “Academic writing” includes work or study in college-level programs with a writing focus, e.g. literature or creative writing programs, but does not include academic programs to which writing is incidental.
