Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Genetics Research Division, is in search of a Researcher Senior to join their team. The Researcher Senior will conduct independent laboratory research investigating the role of centromere dysfunction and chromosome instability in human disease. The position will support projects focused on understanding how centromere instability contributes to ovarian cancer development using molecular, cellular, and xenograft models, as well as studies examining how centromere damage activates the cGAS-STING pathway and promotes fibrosis and systemic sclerosis. Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments, analyzing complex molecular and genomic datasets, and contributing to scientific publications and the development of future research proposals.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Design, perform, and optimize molecular and cellular biology experiments investigating centromere biology, chromosome instability, innate immune signaling, fibrosis, and cancer.
Generate and characterize CRISPR-engineered cell models and perform cell culture, genome editing, DNA/RNA/protein analyses, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and other molecular assays.
Conduct in vivo xenograft studies to evaluate the effects of centromere instability on ovarian cancer initiation and progression, including tumor collection and downstream molecular analyses.
Analyze genomic sequencing, imaging, and other experimental datasets, interpret results, and maintain accurate research records.
Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant applications, laboratory protocols, scientific presentations, and training of junior laboratory personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 60,835- $ 98,855
QualificationsQualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Prior lab experience.
