Job Summary
The Clinical Faculty in Urogynaecology will provide independent specialist clinical services in Urogynaecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery, while contributing to the teaching and supervision of postgraduate residents and undergraduate medical students, and to the research and scholarly mission of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
The job holder will admit, consult on, diagnose and treat patients with pelvic floor disorders and related conditions, within the scope of procedures. The faculty member will lead the development of the Urogynaecology service, including ambulatory clinics, urodynamic diagnostics and pelvic floor rehabilitation, in line with the strategic objectives of the Department and the University Hospital.
Responsibilities
Undertake independent assessment and management of women with pelvic floor disorders.
Order and interpret diagnostic studies including urodynamics, cystourethroscopy and pelvic floor imaging.
Perform surgical procedures within scope, including vaginal and abdominal reconstructive surgery, continence procedures and fistula repair.
Teach, supervise and assess Obstetrics & Gynaecology residents and undergraduate medical students in clinics, wards, labour ward and theatre, including structured surgical training in Urogynaecology procedures.
Counsel patients on treatment options, informed consent and shared decision-making for reconstructive procedures
Establish and lead multidisciplinary collaboration with urology, colorectal surgery, physiotherapy, radiology and geriatrics for complex cases.
Develop and conduct clinical research in Urogynaecology and women's health, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to departmental audits and outcome registries.
Lead the establishment and continuous improvement of Urogynaecology services, including urodynamics, ambulatory pelvic floor clinics and nurse-led continence services.
Participate in the review and development of clinical policies, protocols and best-practice guidelines, and in morbidity and mortality reviews and clinical governance activities.
Participate in the departmental on-call rota and attend departmental meetings as assigned by the Chair.
Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B.) or equivalent.
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Fellowship or equivalent recognized subspecialty training in Urogynaecology / Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.
Registration and retention by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), or eligibility for registration, with specialist recognition in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Minimum of two (2) years' post-specialist-recognition clinical experience, with an established record of independent Urogynaecology practice.
Demonstrated experience teaching and supervising postgraduate trainees and undergraduate medical students.
Minimum Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics training preferred.
Evidence of research activity and peer-reviewed publication is desirable.
