Job Description

Indigenous Mentor Liaison Officer

Are you passionate about supporting and empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees to achieve their personal and professional goals?

Sodexo is seeking a dedicated and culturally knowledgeable Indigenous Mentor Liaison Officer to join our Indigenous Affairs team. In this rewarding role, you will provide mentorship, advocacy and culturally safe support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees across our operations, helping them successfully navigate their employment journey and build long-term careers.

As a trusted advisor and advocate, you will play a key role in strengthening employee engagement, wellbeing, retention and career progression while contributing to Sodexo's commitment to reconciliation and positive community outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees through regular site visits, mentoring sessions and culturally safe "yarns."
  • Provide individualised support, guidance and coaching to employees throughout their employment lifecycle.
  • Assist employees with career development planning, goal setting and identifying pathways for growth and advancement.
  • Connect employees with appropriate internal and external support services, including wellbeing, health and community resources.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders, Human Resources, Learning & Development and other key stakeholders to deliver successful employment outcomes.
  • Promote and support the delivery of Sodexo's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) initiatives.
  • Foster meaningful and respectful engagement with Traditional Owners, Elders and community organisations to support employment, training and community development opportunities.
  • Deliver cultural awareness and capability-building initiatives to employees and leaders across the business.
  • Maintain accurate records, case notes and reporting requirements while ensuring confidentiality and professional boundaries are upheld.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contemporary issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, employment services, community engagement, social support or a similar people-focused role.
  • The ability to establish trust, build meaningful relationships and provide culturally responsive support.
  • Experience engaging with Traditional Owners, Elders and community stakeholders in a respectful and authentic manner.
  • Demonstrated confidence presenting, facilitating discussions and engaging with diverse audiences, from small groups to large forums and community events.
  • The ability to work autonomously while managing multiple priorities.
  • Sound administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience designing, coordinating and delivering projects from concept through to implementation, including stakeholder engagement, reporting and measuring outcomes.
  • A current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
  • A current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel to remote operational sites as required.

Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

While not essential, the following will be highly regarded:

  • Qualifications in Human Resources, Community Services, Social Work, Business, Indigenous Studies or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within mining, resources, facilities management or remote site environments.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, retention or community development programs.
  • Understanding of government, community and employment support services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. We value lived experience, cultural knowledge and community connections, recognising the unique perspectives they bring to our team and the people we support.
