SummaryStudent workers in the Center for Accessibility Resources are responsible for supporting the staff and students by performing a wide range of basic clerical/office tasks for this area and for the larger University. They also support the Center for Accessibility Resources in providing accessible services and promoting equal access to University programs, services, and resources.

This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen the following competencies:

Examples of duties
  • Greet all visitors and determine the reason for their visit 

  • Be welcoming, inclusive, and recognize that not everyone is an effective and confident communicator 

  • Answer phones, take messages, schedule appointments using Outlook, check supplies, filing and general administrative duties as necessary to help keep the office running smoothly and efficiently 

  • General cleaning duties including, but not limited to: wiping down whiteboards, desks, and tables, and other miscellaneous office needs 

  • Following training, independently deliver confidential testing materials and office documents to designated campus locations while adhering to established security and confidentiality procedures.

  • Assist students by answering questions and providing general information about accessibility services, accommodations, and office procedures.

  • Assist with administrative and operational projects that support accessibility services and promote equal access to University programs and resources. Responsibilities may include organizing resource materials, preparing student communications, maintaining records, assisting with outreach initiatives, supporting departmental events and special projects, and providing input on improving office organization and departmental operations. Through these experiences, student employees develop professional skills in communication, organization, customer service, office administration, and problem-solving.

Qualifications

MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY

Must be Federal Work Study Eligible

Must Include a Resume and Cover Letter
  • Be a current Saint Xavier University student 

  • Possess excellent communication skills, computer skills, and be detail-oriented 

  • Be responsible, dependable, and punctual 

  • Be trustworthy and able to maintain the confidentiality of our clients and services 

  • Be able to work independently and to take initiative in fulfilling responsibilities 

  • Be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment 

  • Provide excellent customer service skills and to be an empathic listener 

  • Be Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel 

  • Support the staff and the students in the CAR 

  • Maintain the confidentiality of our clients and services 

  • Exhibit appropriate and professional behavior at all times 

  • Be responsible, dependable, and punctual in the completion of assigned tasks, and in notifying the appropriate staff when conflicts and/ or problems arise 

  • Flexibility in work hours to ensure adequate coverage, etc.
