SummarySummary ObjectiveThe purpose of this position is to assess and counsel patients in basic nutrition in areas not requiring
intensive nutrition counseling. Conduct nutrition education classes for clients and the public.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Examples of duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working
in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as
necessary.
Prepares reports and correspondence, completes special projects, and maintains records and files.
Determines eligibility for nutrition programs by assessing patients for nutritional risk.
Counsels patients in basic nutrition principles, food selection, food preparation, and budgeting using food vouchers, food subsidies, or government commodities to affect a change in participant's lifestyle.
Maintains individual patient records according to medical record procedures.
Refers citizens to governmental, community, and social service agencies for assistance.
Prepares materials, arranges and conducts nutrition education classes for clinic participants and public groups.
Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition or related discipline.
Four (4) years of nutrition: assessments, counseling or education classes experience.
EQUIVALENCY: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must provide one's own source of transportation.
Must work a varied schedule.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body
movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though
precautions have been taken.
