Join the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) as a District Sign Specialist, where you'll play a key role in maintaining and installing traffic signals through the district.
The overall function of this position is to install & maintain signage on state routes, including lane/road closures for District 07. Work is generally performed outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions, depending upon the nature of each assignment. This position is located in the District 07 Gang 750 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
**A valid Louisiana Class 'D" Chauffeur's license is required upon appointment**

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License.
Job Duties:
As a District Sign Specialist 1or 2, you'll help create a positive impact on every job you work on. In this role, you will:
- Sign Installation and Maintenance & Road Closures
- Places traffic control devices including signs, barricades, and lights to close roadways and travel lanes on all State highways and Interstates in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Determines exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations.
- Operates and maintains all equipment to perform duties including sign truck and small tools.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday/6:00 am-4:30 pm
Career Progression: As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a District Sign Specialist 1 or 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: Salary depends on qualifications. The starting hourly rate and premium pay amounts for each level are as follows:
- DISTRICT SIGN SPECIALIST 1: $17.18/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked
- DISTRICT SIGN SPECIALIST 2: $19.67/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked
