The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Rescue Coordinator (Community Development Aide I/II), grade A05/A07 position, in the Animal Services Division.


About the Position
This is a full performance level, rescue coordinator position working in the area of Animal Management. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level supervisor and is evaluated in accordance with federal, state, and local procedures, laws, and regulations.  Work is performed in a kennel/shelter setting and involves exposure to animals. While performing these duties, the incumbent may be exposed to loud noises, noxious odors and may be subjected to animal bites and/or scratches.

The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders. Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
Examples of duties•Promptly greets the public both in person and over the telephone to provide animal adoption and rescue opportunities.
•Understands and adheres to rescue procedures and adoption process to make appropriate matches between potential rescue organizations, adopters and animals.
•Communicates with relevant staff as to the animals scheduled to transition to the rescue organization and adopters.
•Accurately prepares and enters adopters, rescue organizations and animal information into the computer.
•Schedules animals for any testings and spay and neuters as needed.
•Willingly and cooperatively performs other tasks and duties as assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description, however, as within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employees class of work. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth (10th) school grade
• Residence in the geographic area of work assignment
• Demonstrated interest in civic or community affairs.
