Join the M&S Software Engineering team and help shape digital experiences for millions of customers and thousands of colleagues. As a Senior Android Engineer, you'll be part of an engineering-led organisation where technology is central to our transformation and success.

We're looking for a passionate Android engineer with strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to engineering excellence. You'll play a key role in designing, building and maintaining high-quality Android products, while contributing to technical direction, mentoring others and driving best practice across the team. Working within empowered, cross-functional product teams, you'll help deliver seamless mobile experiences that make a real difference to our customers.

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, testing and maintaining high-quality Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, delivering scalable and performant mobile features.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring other Android engineers, contributing to architectural decisions and engineering best practice.
  • Championing clean architecture principles, modern Android development approaches and offline-first mobile strategies.
  • Optimising Gradle build configurations and contributing to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to improve development efficiency.
  • Collaborating closely with designers, backend engineers and product managers to deliver seamless, customer-centric mobile experiences.

  • GitHub Actions, Figma, MDM (nice to have)
  • Offline-first architecture, Clean Architecture, MVVM

 

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Strong experience developing Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Gradle.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and experience integrating mobile applications with backend services.
  • Experience applying clean code principles such as SOLID, DRY and KISS, alongside modern software architecture patterns.
  • Proficiency with Git and CI/CD practices, including experience with GitHub Actions and automated delivery pipelines.
  • Passion for mobile performance, accessibility and user experience, with the ability to translate Figma designs into high-quality Android experiences.
