Project Overview:Bechtel is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Sentinel system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. Sentinel is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation’s aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman Sentinel nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration.
A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary:The Planning and Scheduling Manager is a key leadership role within the Sentinel Project Controls organization, responsible not only for establishing and maintaining the project’s planning and scheduling requirements, processes, and best practices, but also for serving as the technical scheduling subject‑matter expert (SME). This position provides expert guidance on advanced scheduling methodologies, tools, and analytics, ensuring the project’s schedules meet the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and integration. The manager leads and mentors a team of planners, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that consistently delivers high‑quality, execution‑ready project schedules aligned with corporate standards and customer expectations. #LI-EH1
Major Responsibilities:- Provide leadership and direction for all schedule development, maintenance, and monitoring activities across the project.
- Establish, interpret, and implement planning and scheduling policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistent, compliant execution.
- Lead schedule analysis, problem‑solving, and performance studies; develop and apply guidance that supports effective diagnostic and analytical practices.
- Oversee schedule reporting, ensuring clear, accurate, and executive‑ready presentation of schedule data to project and client leadership.
- Ensure full compliance with contractual and corporate scheduling requirements, including alignment with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) standards and certification.
- Maintain configuration control of the baseline schedule and support all baseline change control processes.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure clear understanding of schedule interactions, dependencies, and impacts to project execution.
- Identify schedule risks, constraints, and integration challenges resulting from interdisciplinary interfaces.
- Coordinate and review the integration of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction work scope into the total project plan, including key internal and external interfaces.
- Oversee the establishment, maintenance, and tracking of meaningful intermediate milestones across all phases of project execution.
- Lead the development and validation of activity durations, logic ties, and sequencing to ensure accurate, achievable schedules aligned with major project milestones.
- Oversee schedule resource loading, leveling, and analysis to support staffing and execution strategies.
- Develop and coordinate staffing plans, execution plans, and workload forecasts for planning and scheduling functions.
- Prepare, coordinate, and deliver schedule‑related presentations to company and client management.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide career development guidance, and support the growth of planning and scheduling team members.
- Participate in candidate interviews and contribute to hiring recommendations for planning and scheduling positions.
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the US per contract requirements.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment and successfully go through a government screening process. Unescorted access approval is required.
- Candidate must successfully clear government background check.
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Primavera P6, including hands‑on experience applying it to complex engineering and construction projects.
- Proven ability to lead and oversee all planning and scheduling functions—schedule development, control, analysis—across both field and home‑office environments.
- Experience in establishing and applying scheduling criteria, standards, and methodologies for large, multi‑discipline projects.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated capability in directing, developing, and training both technical and non‑technical personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present schedule insights, analysis, and recommendations to project and client leadership.
- Demonstrated analytical ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and develop effective solutions to scheduling and project execution challenges.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of current industry practices, scheduling techniques, and planning‑tool technologies.
- Advanced understanding of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes, including how each discipline integrates into the project plan.
- Foundational engineering and construction management knowledge gained through specialized training or substantial practical experience.
- Ability to adapt quickly to urgent project needs, shifting priorities, and high‑pressure execution environments.
- Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals and teams from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and objectives.
- Proven track record of delivering high‑quality project controls, planning, and scheduling outcomes on large, complex programs.
- Ability to perform schedule risk analysis and incorporate risk to schedules.
