Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. Job Summary:

In this position, you will support risk prevention strategies and programs, advising regulatory compliance of large-scale projects. You will strengthen the safety culture, manage critical risks and align multidisciplinary teams to achieve high standards of operational performance, compliance and continuous improvement. Results-oriented, with the ability to advise and promote safe, efficient and sustainable work environments.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Providing assistance in a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H program and ES&H Management System to include aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments 
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities 
  • Maintaining ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions 
  • Performing statistical analysis of ES&H data to help identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement 
  • Identifying and supporting any unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel 
  • Leading teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues 
  • Preparing communications, writing reports, and preparing documents for program execution and records retention 
  • Assisting with incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports 
  • Recommending and implementing improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential 
  • Participating in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs 
  • Researching moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice 
  • Providing support to ES&H field and office personnel, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines 
Education and Experience Requirements:

A professional degree related to the environment, safety, health, and 8-10 years of relevant work experience is required.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards Extensive knowledge of Chilean safety, health and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of the essential Bechtel processes (preferable).
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis as required for incident investigations or the research methodology adopted by the project.
  • Imparts the orientation to the project contractors or the specific trainings required for the construction activities.
  • Directs and implements ES&H audits of the project, overseeing the completion of specified corrective actions.
  • Trains the security team and the contractor's team on Bechtel's processes and expectations and the customer's requirements.
  • Knowledge of security and engineering programs, systems, principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of national safety laws and regulations, the requirements and responsibilities of regulatory bodies, current industry standards and practices on ES&H, and best management practices to minimize potential ES&H risks during project execution.
  • Experience in safety, health and environmental assessments/inspections during construction.
  • Experience in the management and/or technical supervision of safety, health and environmental subcontractors or consultants.
