Summary

Works generally with other Equipment Operators and Street Crew Workers performing various independent street construction, maintenance and repair activities.

Examples of duties

1. This position is senior level worker in various independent projects including street repair for pot holes, crack sealing, saw cutting, etc. caused by construction, weather conditions, age, traffic, etc.; overlay with asphalt/concrete; and working on street overlay projects.  

2. Performs same basic function as Operators I and Street Crew Workers but generally operates the heavier or more complex and specialized equipment and machinery and may have some discretionary responsibility for supervising workers in accomplishing assigned projects.

3. Operates jack hammer, dump trucks, backhoe, steel wheel roller, pickup truck, paver, jack hammer, and various power tools at pre-determined locations as assigned.

4. Loads, unloads and operates dump truck to haul materials, trash, etc. to and from assigned work locations.

5. Performs manual and equipment assisted activities to maintain, repair and construct existing or new streets, curbs and gutters, drainage systems, culverts, parking lots, etc. and records and reports job status and equipment used.

6. Trains subordinate workers in equipment operation and repair procedures.

7. Performs equipment maintenance and cleaning activities.

8. Surveys work site and places barricades appropriately for safe traffic management.

9. Keeps simple work records as assigned.

10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

11. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

12. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily  work.

Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

• Physical ability and coordination to accomplish assigned tasks.

• Operating knowledge of equipment such as dump truck, backhoe, jack hammer, etc.

• Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

• Must have the ability to complete tasks as assigned.

• Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.

• Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Must have two years of experience in similar field.

Must obtain a valid Texas Class A CDL license within six months of hire or promotion with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas Class B CDL license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 1), Titmus vision screening.

While performing the essential functions of this position, there will be routine and frequent exposure to:

Safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety vests, steel-toe boots, back support belts, and seat belts are provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
