The Team Member We Are Looking For: 

Team member with comprehensive knowledge of the physiological basis for administering anesthesia and associated drugs and the use of related equipment in order to obtain a balanced anesthesia. Examples of duties

Pre-anesthetic Preparation and Evaluation of the Patient 

  • Obtains an appropriate health history.
  • Conducts appropriate physical screening assessments.
  • Recommends or requests pertinent diagnostic studies and evaluate the results.
  • Selects, obtains, orders, and administers preanesthetic medications.
  • Documents the preanesthetic evaluation and obtains comprehensive informed consent for anesthesia and related services.

lntra-operative Care 

  • Obtains, prepares, and uses all equipment, monitors, supplies and drugs used for the administration of anesthesia and sedation techniques; performs and orders safety checks as needed.
  • Selects, obtains or administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, and blood products necessary to manage the anesthetic.
  • Performs all aspects of airway management, including fiberoptic intubation.
  • Performs and manages regional anesthetic techniques including, but not limited to, subarachnoid, epidural and caudal blocks; plexus, major and peripheral nerve blocks; intravenous regional anesthesia; transtracheal, topical and local infiltration blocks; intracapsular, intercostal and ocular blocks.
  • Provides appropriate invasive and noninvasive monitoring modalities using current standards and techniques.
  • Recognizes abnormal patient response during anesthesia; selects and implements corrective action and requests consultation whenever necessary.
  • Evaluates patient response during emergence from anesthesia and institutes pharmacological or supportive treatment to insure patient stability during transfer.

Post-anesthesia Care 

  • Provides post anesthesia follow-up and evaluation of the patient's response to the anesthesia and surgical experience; takes appropriate corrective actions and requests consultation when indicated.
  • Initiates, orders, and administers respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post anesthesia period.
  • Initiates, orders, and administers pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system during the post anesthesia period to prevent morbidity and mortality.
  • Initiates, orders, and administers acute post anesthesia pain management techniques.
  • Discharges patients from a post anesthesia care unit (PACU) according to facility policy.

Clinical Support Functions 

  • Inserts peripheral and central intravenous catheters.
  • Inserts pulmonary artery catheters.
  • Inserts arterial catheters and performs arterial puncture to obtain arterial blood samples.
  • Manages emergency situations, including initiating or participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Provides consultation and implementation of respiratory and ventilatory care.
  • Management of interventional pain therapy using drugs, regional anesthetic techniques, or other accepted pain-relief modalities.
  • Selects, obtains, orders and/or administers medications or treatments related to the care of the patient, using consultation when appropriate.
  • Accepts additional responsibilities which are within the expertise of the individual CRNA and appropriate to the practice setting.
Qualifications

Requirements to Qualify:
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

1) A valid and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

-AND-
 
2) Graduation from a nursing anesthesia education program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Program of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology.

-AND-
 
3) Valid and unrestricted certification or recertification [of National Certification Examination] issued by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetics.

-AND-
 
4) Valid and unrestricted Nurse Anesthetist certification issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing

-AND-

5) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program certification issued by the American Heart Association.

PHYSICAL CLASS 2 - LIGHT: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Other License Information:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

NON-COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION:
This opportunity is considered non-competitive, meaning you will only need to meet the requirements. If you do, we will add your name on a list with everyone who qualifies without indication of relative standing in the examination and use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

Applicants will be placed on a list of eligible candidates without indication of relative standing in the examination. The appointing power may appoint any one of the names on the appropriate list, except a person without Veterans credit may not be appointed if there are three or more names on the list of persons entitled to Veteran’s credit.

Applicants who have applied and did not fulfill the Requirements when submitting their application may reapply 30 days form their latest application date.

The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies throughout LA Health Services as they occur.

AVAILABLE SHIFTS:

You may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs.
