Objectives of the Position
To support the implementation and continuous improvement of Workplace Safety programs, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and EHS initiatives for BASF Asia-Pacific Service Centre (KL Hub) and BASF Malaysia office (BuO) operations. The role serves as the operational focal point for Workplace Safety activities and stakeholder engagement, contributing to a safe, compliant, and resilient workplace environment that supports business growth, workplace transformation initiatives, and the transition towards a 24/7 operating model.
Main Tasks
Functional Tasks (including but not limited to)
- Workplace EHS Compliance
- Serve as the Workplace Safety focal point for KL Hub and BuO offices, ensuring compliance with BASF requirements, local regulations, and corporate EHS standards.
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, emergency response plans, risk management, and operational guidelines.
- Coordinate statutory and corporate EHS reporting and audits (e.g., DOSH, REHSA), monitor safety performance, and drive timely closure of findings and follow-up actions.
- Maintain safety and training records, certifications, inspection and incident reports, and other compliance documentation.
- Workplace Risk Management
- Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, safety inspections, observations, and compliance reviews.
- Coordinate periodic checks and maintenance of safety and emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, first aid, etc.) to ensure readiness.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, perform root-cause analysis, implement corrective/preventive actions, and track their effectiveness.
- Oversee IAQ, environmental monitoring, and workplace hygiene assessments with building management and service providers to drive improvements.
- Emergency Preparedness & Business Resilience
- Lead and improve emergency preparedness and response programs for KL Hub and BuO offices, including drills, exercises, and crisis simulations.
- Coordinate Emergency Response Team (ERT) activities: nomination, onboarding, training/certification renewals, duty rosters, annual planning etc.
- Actively participate in emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity efforts; monitor ERT effectiveness and drive improvements.
- Safety Culture & Capability Development
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement programs, awareness campaigns, safety communications, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Develop and deliver workplace safety and competency training (new joiner briefings, fire safety, emergency response, first aid, Global Safety Day, and EHS learning campaigns).
- Conduct safety inductions and orientations, share safety alerts/lessons learned/best practices, and support leadership engagement to reinforce ownership and accountability.
- Stakeholder Management
- Build and manage partnerships with Business Units, HR, Facilities, Procurement, Building Management, contractors, and service providers to improve Workplace Safety; provide guidance and escalate complex issues to the Senior Manager as needed.
- Serve as Secretary and EHS focal point for the Safety & Health and Emergency Response Team committees: coordinate meetings, management reviews, action tracking, governance reporting, and communicate key outcomes.
- Contractor Safety & Facilities Oversight
- Lead contractor safety for office projects, maintenance, renovations, fit-outs, relocations, and infrastructure upgrades: review risk assessments, method statements, and permit requirements, and ensure EHS requirements are integrated into workplace changes.
- Conduct contractor safety briefings, monitor compliance with BASF EHS and regulatory obligations, and coordinate with Facilities, Building Management, and contractors to ensure safe execution.
- Strategic Projects & Continuous Improvement

- Support and implement strategic EHS, workplace transformation, employee wellbeing, and operational excellence initiatives in line with business needs.
- Identify and drive process improvements, digitalization, standardization, and simplification for Workplace Safety programs; act as EHS focal point to ensure EHS requirements and risk management are integrated into workplace-related projects.
- Produce management reports, dashboards, and presentations to monitor project performance and support decision-making; support regional and global EHS initiatives as assigned.
- Act as the EHS focal point for workplace-related projects, ensuring EHS requirements, risk management principles, and BASF standards are integrated throughout project planning and execution.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional EHS certifications (Safety and Health Officer or Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Coordinator) and relevant workplace safety experience would be an advantage.
Work Experience
- >5 years of relevant experience in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Protection, EHS Management Systems, Workplace Safety, Facilities Safety, or related EHS functions.
- Experience in office/workplace environments, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, audit management, and EHS program implementation are an advantage
