PURPOSE OF POSITION
We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially astute sales analyst to lead a team of regional sales analysts, driving product ownership, business analysis and baseline performance reporting for the sales force. The role will be part of the Sales Intelligence team at HEINEKEN Beverages. The purpose of Sales Intelligence is to use market, product, sales and sales force performance information, apply critical thinking and analytical tools, and convert this into relevant insights to support business planning, operational optimisation and sales incentive engineering for South Africa. The role supports sales leadership by drawing relevant reports and developing insights to optimise sales force performance. The role coordinates the analytics team by translating business needs into reporting solutions, process maps and workflow automations using technical tools such as KNIME, Alteryx or similar platforms. The role is responsible for standardising reports and developing analytical visualisations in PowerPoint and Power BI.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Lead sales analytics, product ownership and national performance insight
- Identify key national and regional insights across market, product, sales and sales force performance data, and translate these into clear implications for sales leadership and business planning.
- Own and coordinate the analytics product roadmap, ensuring reporting solutions, dashboards and analytical outputs are prioritised against business needs and sales force requirements.
- Standardise baseline performance reporting between head office and regional teams, using clear reporting standards, visualisations and fit-for-purpose automation where appropriate.
- Highlight national and regional performance risks, opportunities and execution gaps that require management attention or targeted sales force action.
- Work with cross-functional teams to translate commercial priorities into analytics requirements, reporting solutions and workflow improvements that support sustainable, profitable growth for HEINEKEN Beverages.
Market, product and sales force intelligence reporting
- Publish comprehensive sales intelligence reports with insights and actionable recommendations across market share, product performance, sales trends and sales force effectiveness.
- Use digital platforms for reporting, workflow automation, data preparation and process improvement, including Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Alteryx or similar platforms where relevant.
- Gather competitor information through engagement with customers and regional and channel sales forces across the national landscape.
- Gather in-trade insights through engagement with consumers, sales teams and trade stakeholders.
Sales reporting, automation and visualisation
- Continually drive standardisation, simplification and governance of sales intelligence reporting within the sales force and for other relevant stakeholders.
- Lead the design, development and enhancement of automated reporting and visualisation processes for the regional sales force analysts, including Power BI dashboards, PowerPoint based reports and workflow-enabled reporting processes that improve visibility, access and efficiency.
- Establish push reporting capability, driving relevant information to sales teams and highlighting opportunities for improvement, automation and excellent execution.
- Deploy sales intelligence tools, ensuring complete understanding by end users through regular training and on-site engagement with regional sales teams across South Africa.
- Provide analytical input to guide and influence strategic decisions of the sales force leadership team.
- Lead and provide direction to regional sales analysts on performance measurement, tracking, reporting cadence and insight quality.
Support sales incentive engineering and performance management
- Support the target-setting process for the regions across all key sales metrics, including volume and sales input measures, and ensure timely cascading.
- Ensure ongoing tracking and management of sales incentives and support the month-end process.
- Collate various sales incentive metrics and help produce a single view of the key metrics for the regional sales teams.
Drive performance insight, process improvement and trade execution support
- Convert sales data into sales intelligence through deep analysis and interpretation of relevant data sources.
- Ensure timely delivery of predefined reports and exception reports to sales force leadership.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve sales intelligence processes, tools and systems through process mapping, workflow automation and better use of data.
Team leadership and cross-functional enablement
- Set clear goals and align regional sales analyst efforts with organisational objectives, ensuring deliverables support commercial priorities, stakeholder needs and sales force performance improvement.
- Inspire, lead and motivate team members to achieve high performance, while coaching the team on reporting discipline, business analysis, process improvement and adoption of automation tools.
- Optimise resource allocation for efficiency.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, cross-functional teamwork and collaboration between analytics, sales, finance, marketing, supply chain and regional teams.
- Support the analytics team by gathering business requirements, identifying repeatable manual processes, mapping current and future-state workflows, and building or coordinating automation solutions that improve team efficiency.
- Manage conflict, change and performance.
- Support the sales intelligence manager and perform the 2IC function when required.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an analytical or data-related field, e.g. econometrics, business or financial economics, business informatics, mathematics, computer science, statistics or data management.
- Master’s degree in an analytical and data field preferred.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in management consulting, business analysis, or data analytics.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in commercial analytics and/or commercial strategy in a FMCG or Retail business is required.
- Experience leading analysts and analysis deliverables, including coaching, developing, prioritising work and ensuring consistent reporting quality.
- Strong Microsoft Excel capability with a high technical competence and confidence working with data, reporting tools and workflow platforms.
- Senior stakeholder engagement experience preferably with operational leadership teams.
- Ability to build, maintain, and meaningfully contribute to Power BI reports and recurring performance reporting presentations and dashboards.
- Working knowledge of analytical, workflow and data preparation tools such as KNIME, Alteryx, baseline competence in data preparation tools such as SQL, Python or similar platforms; depth can be developed in role.
- Good communicator, with the ability to translate data insights into comprehensible reports for different stakeholders.
