Wairakei Resort Taupō is seeking a motivated Maintenance Assistant to join our Engineering team on a part-time, fixed-term contract through to 1 April 2027. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of New Zealand's most iconic resorts, helping maintain our accommodation, public spaces, and guest facilities to a high standard. .

Job Description

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring Wairakei Resort Taupō is presented to the highest standard for our guests. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will carry out a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and painting tasks across our accommodation, public areas, and resort facilities.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll work both independently and as part of a supportive team, helping maintain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for our guests and team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and preventative maintenance across the resort.
  • Complete painting, plastering, and finishing work to a high standard.
  • Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and reported faults.
  • Assist with room refurbishments and improvement projects.
  • Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance issues before they become problems.
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including pathways, gardens, signage, and resort facilities as required.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Support the Engineering team with planned maintenance and larger projects as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked workshop and storage areas.

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who:

* Has previous maintenance, handyman, building, or trade experience

* Has painting experience and can complete painting and finishing work to a high standard..

* Is practical with good problem-solving skills.

* Can work independently and manage their workload.

* Has excellent attention to detail.

* Takes pride in producing quality work.

* Is physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying equipment.

* Has a positive attitude and enjoys working as part of a team.

* Holds a current full New Zealand driver's licence (preferred).

* Hours for this role are between 7am at 8pm base don a roster system- Weekend work will be included
