SummaryPerform routine maintenance and general repairs to all DOT vehicles and equipment.

Diagnose and makes repairs to air brake systems.

Rebuild and install engines, cylinder heads, transmissions and rear ends.

Replace injectors, injector pumps, timing chains and belts, and distributors.

Overhaul starters, alternators, carburetors, and other serviceable components.

Make repairs and/or replace all steering components in vehicles and equipment.

Use an electric welder to make metal repairs to mowers, tractors, and other vehicles and/or equipment.

Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours on 12-hour shifts. Examples of dutiesTwo (2) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.  Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.  Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. 

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time.  Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
