Shipper/Receiver

The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for coordinating incoming and outgoing materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring tools, supplies, and equipment are organized and available when required. This position serves as the primary point of control for the shipping and receiving area and helps maintain clear accountability for company inventory and supplies.
The role also supports deliveries, pickups, and general errands and may assist with quality-control activities based on experience. The ideal candidate will be confident, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable communicating with both office and shop personnel. They must be able to establish clear inventory controls and ensure materials are not removed or used without proper authorization and documentation.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shipping and Receiving:
- Receive, inspect, document, and properly store incoming materials, equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Prepare, package, document, and coordinate outgoing shipments.
- Verify received and shipped materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and other supporting documentation.
- Identify and report damaged, missing, or incorrect items.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shipping and receiving area.
Inventory and Supply Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records for company tools, materials, consumables, and supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment requirements before shortages occur.
- Establish and maintain clear controls over access to supplies and inventory.
- Ensure materials and supplies are not removed from the shipping and receiving area without appropriate authorization and documentation.
- Organize inventory so materials can be located and issued efficiently.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
- Build respectful working relationships while confidently reinforcing inventory procedures with team members.
Transportation and Logistics:
- Complete local pickups, deliveries, and company errands as required.
- Safely operate company vehicles and transport materials between suppliers, client locations, and Iron Core facilities.
- Load and secure materials appropriately for transportation.
- Tow and maneuver larger trailers safely and confidently.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of materials using appropriate equipment and safe work practices.
Documentation and Quality Support:
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, deliveries, inventory movements, and material returns.
- Ensure documentation is communicated promptly between the office, shop, and shipping and receiving area.
- Assist with quality-control documentation, material traceability, inspections, and related activities when required.
- Support the continuous improvement of inventory, shipping, receiving, and material-control processes.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between office personnel, shop employees, supervisors, suppliers, and customers.
- Communicate delays, shortages, discrepancies, and delivery concerns promptly.
- Respond confidently and professionally when priorities change or urgent materials are required.
- Support other operational activities as reasonably required.
Requirements
PREFERRED/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record required.
- Previous shipping, receiving, warehousing, or inventory-control experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain organized and accurate inventory records.
- Comfortable completing pickups, deliveries, and general company errands.
- Comfortable towing, backing up, and maneuvering larger trailers.
- Forklift experience preferred; valid forklift certification is an asset.
- Quality-control experience or familiarity with material traceability documentation is an asset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
- Confident and professional communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain appropriate control over company materials and supplies.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, and moving materials, with accommodation where required.
- Basic computer skills and experience with inventory-management software or Microsoft Office 365 are considered assets.
