About the role

The role holder serves as a Finance Business Partner for either a Cluster Lead or multiple Client Partners and has end-to-end P&L responsibility for customer contracts. This includes providing both commercial and strategic support, conducting analyses and business evaluations to ensure profitable growth and operational improvement. The Finance Business Partner is also responsible for reporting the financial performance of contracts by providing detailed variance and trend analyses together with interpretation and assessment of growth potential within customer contracts. The Finance Business Partner is responsible for ensuring and maintaining control processes within the BT International Accounting Control Framework and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

What you’ll be doing
  • Provide core commercial and financial analyses and recommendations to the Senior Finance Business Partner RS EMEA and Cluster Lead/Client Partner to achieve profitable contract growth.
  • Define and steer contracts with regard to strategy, risk management and forecasting, including the identification of trends and contract profitability.
  • Within the contract: establish bid handover processes; define the nature and level of finance support; review the initial in-life P&L and balance sheet forecast; oversee preparation of accounting papers and provisions and obtain approvals; define content and structure of contract forecast files and supporting documents where non-standard documents are required; oversee project code structure setup; advise on the internal trading model; confirm compliance requirements.
  • During month-end close: define the framework to ensure data quality and accuracy of financial postings; determine accruals and provisions with sales colleagues; advise on and approve accounting adjustments; review and approve flash reports and high-level commentary; present month-end results and variance analyses to contract teams and senior management; ensure SOX compliance.
  • Balance Sheet: ensure accuracy of globally delivered balance-sheet data; regularly review balances with the contract team and obtain SOX compliance confirmations; continuously improve the contract balance sheet; identify working-capital improvement opportunities such as payment and delivery terms.
  • Regional & Contract Reporting (CGR, MU Review, BUR): support opportunity and risk analysis and reporting to central finance; review CGR reports with the Contract Accountant and Contract Team prior to formal reviews; approve financial values; support ad hoc requests for different financial reports together with the global Contract Accountant.
  • Ensure meaningful management reporting, prepare variance analyses and develop corrective actions with the business; ensure contract success through validation of measures, tracking of results and countermeasures for negative deviations.
  • Forecasting: perform and control all financial forecasts, review and submit the global outlook and BRF forecast; review and submit monthly sector risks and opportunities to central finance; support BRF presentations; validate assumptions such as new business, PPP and TLR forecasts; ensure cost initiatives and risks are reflected correctly and mitigation plans are validated.
  • Revenue and billing control: approve credit requests where applicable; obtain additional approvals where required under Delegation of Authority rules; understand the impact of contractual clauses such as indexation and benchmarking.
  • Cost Control: actively work with account teams to identify and enhance cost-saving initiatives and mitigation plans.
  • Compliance and Audit: ensure adherence to BT International accounting governance requirements and global SOX regulations; review and approve all compliance checklists and activities.
Essential Skills / Experience
  • Education: Completed university degree or university of applied sciences degree in Business Administration.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in finance.
  • Excellent knowledge of controlling instruments and experience with business processes;
  • Strong expertise in finance and accounting including HGB and IFRS/IAS;
  • Good knowledge of control frameworks including Sarbanes-Oxley;
  • Independent working style, initiative and resilience; 
  • Ability to solve complex and long-term project issues; 
  • Experience working with virtual teams; 
  • Very good written and spoken English. German speaking is preferred.
