About Health Services:
The Health Services division of the HCJPD is responsible for the medical, psychological, and treatment programs within the agency. The services operated within this division include the medical staff that assess and treat youth in the detention center and post-adjudicated facilities. In addition, the division has mental health therapists who provide crisis counseling, and individual, group, and family therapy to youth both in the detention center and under community supervision. Lastly, the Health Services division oversees the four specialty courts that operate within the agency to help address some of the underlying factors that may be impacting a youth’s functioning.

Position Overview:
The Parent Partner will be assigned a caseload within the Specialty Court program, focusing on assisting and supporting families in locating and accessing services and benefits within the community. In addition, they assist the guardian with navigation through the court system and develop a family plan outlining goals and expectations of each guardian.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as liaison between their assigned caseload, court staff, and community agencies.

• Supports and encourages families to educate themselves by attending parent education classes and providing them with materials pertaining to mental health, educational, and other pertinent issues.

• Responsible for assisting the youth and family in accessing mental health, social, educational, and supportive services.

• Develops and maintains an up-to-date, usable directory of appropriate services.

• Participates in staff meetings and court proceedings.

• Addresses crises and coordinates necessary assistance for the family.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.

• This person must have personal experience dealing with/and advocating for their own child or close relative involved in a mental health system, juvenile justice system, Child Protective Services or similar agencies.

Licensure:

• Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with appropriate liability auto insurance coverage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must possess a basic knowledge of child and adolescent mental illnesses and community resources.

• Must possess knowledge of department, division, and agency policies and procedures.

• Must be able to work with other professionals at all levels of the juvenile justice system, including judges, attorneys, psychiatrists, psychologists, program administrators, probation and detention officers.

• Must be able to have the ability to build rapport with youth, families, and caregivers through professionalism, courtesy, discretion, attentiveness, cultural sensitivity, and supportive communication.

• Must be able to respond as requested to court, probation, and clinicians as needed and without delay and have basic knowledge of probation case monitoring.

• Knowledge of computer programs required to perform the job, including Microsoft Office software.

• Must be 21 years of age.

Additional Requirements:

• Upon receiving a conditional job offer, all applicants must undergo a criminal background check and drug screening.

• All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as well as testing based on reasonable suspicion that the employee may be under the influence of a substance prohibited by the county’s drug and alcohol policy during the course and scope of employment.

• In the event of a public emergency declared by the county, staff may be assigned to other duties, facilities, or departments under the supervision of another county department.

• Applicants must be at least 21 years old.

• Employees in this position must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's license and maintain liability insurance coverage at least equal to the minimum amounts required by law.

• Certified copies of educational transcripts and/or college credits will be required during the hiring process.

• This position involves working with challenging youth where the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies may be necessary to ensure the safety of both youth and staff.

• Monday - Friday 

  • Late nights and weekends as needed and/or as scheduled.

  • Hours will be discussed during departmental interview.

• $53,123.20 - $64,168.00 Annually
• Depends on Qualifications
• Based on 26 Pay Periods
