Director of Development – Heersink School of Medicine/UAB Medicine

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of Development for the Heersink School of Medicine Development team.  The position will serve as a primary frontline major gift officer for assigned departments, centers, and institutes within the Heersink School of Medicine. This includes developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies to advance philanthropic priorities within the assigned units.

The Director of Development will work with department chairs, division directors, physicians, faculty, grateful patients, alumni, corporations, foundations, and volunteers.  The incumbent will partner collaboratively with Advancement colleagues to ensure an exceptional donor experience and maximize fundraising outcomes.

This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Development II and serves as an integral member of both the Heersink School of Medicine Development team and UAB Advancement.

This position is full-time, hybrid eligible after the probationary period.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 
•    Conduct strategic donor discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits.
•    Build, manage, and strategically advance a portfolio of major gift prospects capable of making gifts.
•    Work with physician and medical faculty in devising plans to cultivate and solicit grateful patients.  
•    Collaborate closely with the Office of Advancement central services teams to ensure seamless alignment and confirmation that all processes are followed across gift and records administration, prospect research, data management, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, communications, and stewardship processes.
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Pay Range: $70,425 - $97,000
 

 Qualifications 

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Two years major gift experience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    5 years of fundraising or equivalent experience
•    2 years of major gift experience
•    After-hours work and travel required

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
•    Higher education or health care experience
•    Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
•    CRM
•    HIPAA
