Job Purpose 

Weatherford is seeking a skilled Repair & Maintenance Technician – Well Services to support the maintenance, repair, inspection, refurbishment, and testing of Well Services equipment at the Abu Dhabi workshop facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, operational readiness, and compliance with Weatherford’s safety, quality, and operational standards. The role requires strong hands-on mechanical skills, experience with oilfield downhole tools, and the ability to perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, redress activities, and functional testing in accordance with approved procedures and OEM requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain 5S standards within the assigned workshop bay, tool crib, and work cells, including shadow boards, designated storage locations, red-tag discipline, and daily end-of-shift housekeeping activities.
  • Perform repair, maintenance, inspection, and redress activities on Well Services equipment according to approved procedures, OEM manuals, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Execute standard work practices by following documented redress sequences, standard cycle times, and approved tooling arrangements.
  • Verify that the latest revision of procedures, drawings, manuals, and technical documents are available and followed before commencing any work.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing redress cycle time, rework, scrap, and repair costs through measurable improvements.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections, thread inspections, gauging, and component verification using calibrated measuring equipment.
  • Perform assembly and disassembly activities using correct torque procedures and calibrated torque tools.
  • Ensure proper selection, installation, and handling of seals, elastomers, lubricants, grease, and thread compounds.
  • Carry out pressure testing and functional testing of equipment as per approved procedures, ensuring accurate test documentation and traceability.
  • Complete job cards, inspection reports, maintenance records, and computer-based documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a strong focus on Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements while performing all workshop activities.
  • Support field operations and customer requirements by ensuring equipment is maintained and available within required operational timelines.
  • Work effectively within a multicultural technical team while maintaining Weatherford’s quality and service standards.

Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven hands-on repair and maintenance experience.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of oilfield tool workshop Repair & Maintenance (R&M) experience, including 1–2 years of experience working with thru-tubing, fishing, and milling tools.
  • Practical experience with the repair, redress, and maintenance of Well Services equipment, including:
    • Mud motors (rotor/stator assemblies, bearing packs)
    • Overshots and spears
    • Junk baskets
    • Hydraulic/mechanical jars
    • Disconnect tools
    • Anchors
    • Milling tools
    • Casing scrapers
    • Plugs redress
    • Coiled tubing packers and related completion intervention tools
  • Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), and redress kit lists.
  • Knowledge and practical application of torque procedures using calibrated torque equipment.
  • Experience with thread inspection, gauging, and dimensional inspection using:
    • Vernier calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Thread gauges
    • Other precision measuring instruments
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems troubleshooting.
  • Safe operation of pressure test bay and bucking unit, with proper test documentation.
  • Competent in calibrated torque, make-up and break-out per the torque table.
  • Ability to operate workshop tools, hand tools, measuring equipment, and relevant machinery safely.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance practices, equipment reliability, and quality control requirements.
  • Basic computer skills required for maintenance management systems, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ability to read and write English sufficiently for completing job cards, inspection reports, procedures, and technical documentation.

 

Qualifications

  • ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical trade certification.
  • Relevant oilfield workshop maintenance and repair experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Well Services equipment and oilfield maintenance practices.
