Sapphire Energy is looking for an experienced Site Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of our Alternative Fuels Plant in Medgidia. Operating 24/7 and processing approximately 250,000 tonnes of waste annually, this role is critical in delivering high-quality alternative fuels to our adjacent cement plant while driving operational excellence, safety, and team performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all site operations, including waste reception, storage, sorting, blending, shredding, drying, and alternative fuel production.
  • Foster a strong health, safety, and environmental culture, ensuring full compliance with HSE standards and regulations.
  • Drive operational performance through process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure high levels of asset reliability by overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Maintain product quality standards and ensure alternative fuels meet agreed specifications.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of employees and contractors.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, transport providers, regulatory authorities, and plant stakeholders.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and implement actions to improve productivity, efficiency, and cost performance.
  • Support budget planning and ensure effective resource utilization across the site.
  • Prepare operational reports and support audits, inspections, and governance activities.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in industrial operations within manufacturing, energy, waste management, cement, mining, aggregates, or similar sectors.
  • Minimum 3 years of people management experience leading teams of 10+ employees.
  • Experience managing operations in a production or processing environment, ideally within a continuous or 24/7 operation.
  • Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven understanding of process optimization, maintenance planning, asset reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication and leadership capabilities, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
  • Professional fluency in Romanian and English.
