Summary

The Haymarket Gainesville Library is looking forward to welcoming an organized, community-minded, and motivated individual to join our busy branch as a member of the Adult Services Team! 

In this part-time Librarian position, you will play a crucial role in both providing customer service to patrons of all ages on service desks and at outreach events, as well as planning and implementing programs, both passive and active, that meet the needs of our diverse and ever-growing community. We are looking for a librarian with strong organization and communication skills who is collaborative and creative. About This Role:

  • Assists patrons with library services, including digital resources, reference inquiries, circulation tasks, and Reader’s Advisory. 
  • Promotes library services and resources both in the branch and at outreach events. 
  • Assists patrons with basic technology, including (but not limited to) public computers, personal computers, personal devices, email and internet help, copying, scanning, and printing assistance, use of library hotspots, and other library issued technology. 
  • Plans and implements engaging and community-orientated programs for adults and families. Includes coordinating program schedules and marketing materials, working with vendors and other library departments, keeping statistics, and submitting supply orders. 
  • Plans and updates library displays and passive programs.
  • Maintains an assigned section of the adult collection, evaluating items for weeding and rebalancing according to system policy.
  • May serve as a passport agent if eligible.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in library or information science

Preferences:

  • Public library experience
  • Experience in providing technology training to patrons, including (but not limited to) with public computers, personal computers, personal devices, email and internet help, copying, scanning, and printing.
  • Experience in assisting patrons with library digital resources
  • Experience in the development and planning of programs for all ages
  • Experience with collection management, including weeding and rebalancing a floating collection

Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time, 20-hour per week position. Staff are currently scheduled during the following hours: Monday – Wednesday 9:00am to 8:00pm and Thursday – Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm. The work schedule may vary based on needs of the library. Flexibility is a must. 

Starting Salary Range:

$33.80 - $40.72 / hour
