SummaryThe Orange County Health Department has an opening for a Public Health Nurse Supervisor I. This is a full-time position. The work is primarily responsible for management of the medical clinics in the Personal Health Division of the Health Department. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of professional and paraprofessional clinic staff while maintaining standards.Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nursing Director, with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions public health needs and requests. Supervision is a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Public Health AND three (3) years’ public health nursing experience** AND 1 year supervisory experience; OR
Graduation from an accredited School of Professional Nursing and 4 years’ professional nursing experience of which three (3) years are in public health** AND 1 year supervisory experience; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
**Public Health Nursing experience includes the following:
Faith Community/Parish Nurse, Case/Care Management Nurse, Home Health or Hospice Nurse from non-PH agency, Federally Qualified Healthcare Center, Jail/Prison Nurse, Rural Health Nurse, Nurse-Family Partnership/Family Connects Nurse, Free and Charitable Clinic Nurse, Baby Love Plus Nurse, Foster Care Nurse, Occupational Health Nurse, Child Abuse Nurse, Infection Prevention and Control Nurse, Developmental Pediatric Nurse, Nursing Officer with US PH Service, “Population Health” Nurse which may include some types of outpatient clinic nursing, Refugee Camp Nurse, and hospital-based Community Nurse.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid, current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver License issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All public health nurses are required to complete the Credentialed Public Health Nursing course within one year of hire.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of an SBI background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws.
Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Public Health Nursing Director.
