About This Position:
DOTD Police plays an important role in protecting Louisiana’s transportation system and ensuring the safety of the traveling public. In this position, you will enforce federal and state regulations related to vehicle size, weight, permits, registration, and taxation to help maintain safe roadways and protect the state’s infrastructure.
As a member of DOTD Police, you will support the department’s mission by promoting compliance, safeguarding transportation assets, and providing professional law enforcement services throughout Louisiana.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. - Ensure that the applicable rules and regulations are enforced fairly and consistently.
- Ensures that required statistical reports, time and attendance reports, and other required administrative paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Informs the Supervisor of all pertinent information within the region or statewide area as needed. Incumbent maintains records and transmits orders given to him by his supervisor.
- Ensure that Department issued equipment is well maintained and used in a manner consistent with DOTD Police Policy.
- Incumbent conducts and completes investigations as directed and may be assigned as the lead investigator over lower-level agents. Incumbent maintains a working knowledge of all policies, procedures, and practices in effect.
Position Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment
Work Location: Positions are available at the following locations: Baptist, Delta, Breaux Bridge, LaPlace, and Starks/Toomey
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a as DOTD Enforcement Cadet, Agent, or Senior Agent depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: Below are the starting biweekly rates and Shift Differential pay for each level. A Special Entrance Rate (SER) applies to each level and represents the starting rate of pay for newly hired employees in these positions. All levels are eligible for a $2.00 per hour Shift Differential.
- DOTD Enforcement Cadet – SER of $1,616.00 biweekly
- DOTD Enforcement Agent – SER of $1,785.60 biweekly
- DOTD Enforcement Senior Agent – SER of $1,910.40 biweekly
