Electrical Draftsman β Job Description
An Electrical Draftsman is responsible for preparing accurate electrical drawings, layouts, and technical documentation for construction and engineering projects. The role involves developing detailed shop drawings, as-built drawings, and coordination drawings in accordance with project specifications, electrical standards, and consultant requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare electrical shop drawings, installation drawings, and as-built drawings using AutoCAD or other drafting software.
- Develop layouts for power distribution, lighting systems, emergency lighting, cable trays, containment systems, earthing, and low-current systems.
- Review IFC drawings, project specifications, and consultant comments to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with MEP disciplines, architects, structural engineers, and site teams to resolve design conflicts and clashes.
- Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), panel schedules, and cable routing drawings as required.
- Incorporate revisions and updates based on consultant and client feedback.
- Assist in quantity take-offs and preparation of material schedules.
- Maintain proper documentation and drawing records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all drawings comply with local authority regulations, electrical codes, and company standards.
Requirements:
- Diploma or certification in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction drawings, and MEP coordination.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and design documents.
- Good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work within project deadlines.
Experience:
- Typically 2β5 years of experience in electrical drafting within construction, MEP, or engineering projects.
- Experience in commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with local electrical regulations and standards is an advantage.
