Job Purpose:

The Surgical Technology/Central Sterile Processing Program Director is responsible to the Division Dean for Health Sciences for the delivery of quality instruction and management of students enrolled in the Surgical Technology Program and Central Sterile Processing.  Responsibilities occur in the areas of instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, professional development and instructional management and include the following:

Job Duties:

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Work with members of the Advisory Committee to participate in planning for new and existing programs and courses.
2. Assist in the development of curricula for students in the Surgical Technology & Central Sterile Processing (CSP) Program
3. Evaluate courses in the Surgical Technology/CSP curricula.
4. Assist in the development and refinement of curricula for Surgical Technology/CSP courses.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE

1. Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi.
2. Provide high quality instruction for students in the Surgical Technology/CSP Programs.
3. Evaluate the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
4. Participate in the Faculty Performance Management System.
5. Achieve at least 3.5 on student evaluation and satisfactory peer/supervisor evaluations.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT

1. Work with the Student Services Division in the selection, recruitment, admission and retention of students and cooperate with this division to utilize counseling services.
2. Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with division policy and procedures.
3. Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in the Surgical Technology/CSP Programs.
4. Maintain office hours as required and needed by students, faculty, and advisees.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional meetings.
2. Attend relevant professional meetings.

1. Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to Surgical Technology & CSP education.

COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICE

1. Oversees activities related to compliance with Program specific accreditation criteria including the requirements of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC/STSA).
2. Acts as a liaison to communicate between the College and Program specific accreditation committees including ARC/STSA.
3. Actively participate in activities to select, recruit, admit and retain students.
4. Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area.
5. Serve actively on College committees.
6. Participate in Division meetings as assigned.
7. Participate in marketing activities for the Surgical Technology/CSP Programs

1. Work cooperatively with other Division faculty members and College departments to meet the educational needs of students.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

1. Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies.
2. Prepare reports in cooperation with division dean for input into the planning/reporting system.
3. Develop and administer student regulations within the program and division in a fair and equitable manner.
4. Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all students.
5. Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Division Dean.
6. Maintain standards applicable for program accreditation.
7. Review and approve purchase requests prior to submission to the dean.
8. Oversee Surgical Technology & CSP class schedule preparation.  
9. Prepare budgets in cooperation with division dean.  

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of five (5) years of recent scrub experience or five (5) years recent experience as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten (10) years. Professional certification required.
