About the Role   

The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial processing, reporting, reconciliations and compliance activities across the Finance function. The role performs a hybrid mix of general accounting and payroll-related responsibilities, including month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations, operational accounting tasks, payroll processing, statutory calculations, audit support and reporting inputs. This role prepares accounting workpapers, reconciliations and source data for review by the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller, while maintaining strong internal controls, data integrity and confidentiality. 

Monthly and regular responsibilities 

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, reconciliations, workpapers and reporting inputs. 
  • Maintain accurate financial, payroll and operational accounting records, ensuring data integrity and appropriate supporting documentation. 
  • Assist with management reporting, analysis and stakeholder support across finance and payroll activities. 
  • Support day-to-day finance operations, including banking, payments, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting tasks. 

Annual and periodic responsibilities 

  • Support statutory, tax, payroll and other compliance activities through preparation of reconciliations, calculations and supporting schedules. 
  • Assist with quarterly, annual and year-end reporting, including payroll year-end, remuneration processes and audit requirements. 
  • Prepare and maintain audit-ready documentation to support internal reviews, external audits and compliance obligations. 

General responsibilities 

  • Maintain strong controls, accurate records, confidentiality and compliance with finance procedures. 
  • Contribute to process improvement, system use and documentation across finance and payroll activities. 
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and support projects or other duties as required. 


About You  

We’re looking for a professional and motivated Financial Accountant to join our team! If you thrive in a collaborative and structured environment, love working with numbers, and bring a sharp eye for detail, this could be a good fit for you. 

To be successful you will need to bring along:   

  • Formal tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance or a related discipline. 
  • CPA/CA qualified, or working towards qualification, preferred. 
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in accounting, finance or payroll roles, ideally within medium to large entities. 
  • Demonstrated experience preparing journals, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting inputs and supporting workpapers. 
  • Experience processing payroll and reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts would be highly regarded. 
  • Experience with Access Micropay preferred but not essential. 
  • Experience with Workday, SuccessFactors or similar enterprise systems would be an advantage. 
  • High level of competence using financial management systems, Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Understanding of payroll compliance obligations, including PAYG withholding, superannuation, payroll tax, workers compensation and leave entitlements, would be advantageous. 
  • Strong organisational abilities with the capacity to meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, People & Culture and finance stakeholders. 
  • You must hold current permanent and full-time working rights in Australia. 
  • A cleared police check is required prior to commencement.
