SummaryThe Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a Groundskeeper Crew Leader to supervise ground maintenance activities. The Groundskeeper Crew Leader keeps logs and records to monitor various equipment maintenance and activities. The Groundskeeper Crew Leader manages the maintenance of grounds and landscaping, performs and supervises the daily maintenance of equipment, and supervises emergency response.

The incumbent oversees all grounds and landscaping maintenance operations, ensuring the property remains safe, clean, and well-kept. This role also directs and supports activities related to funeral services. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed logs and records for equipment use and servicing, supervising daily equipment maintenance, and coordinating emergency response efforts. The supervisor ensures that all tasks are performed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with organizational standards.
Examples of dutiesEssential functions include but are not limited:
- Performs all aspects of bed maintenance to include chemical spraying, mulching, hedge and shrub trimming, tree pruning, mowing, weed trimming and edging.
- Supervises and trains employees and temporary workers.
- Job plans and projects future maintenance requirements.
- Supervises ground maintenance activities by scheduling, training and assigning duties, taking service requests, completing time sheets, keeping work records and logs, conducting performance evaluations and conducting daily team meetings.
- Supervises emergency response
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
Required:- At least one year of experience landscape, grounds maintenance, and supervisory or lead experience.
Supplemental informationRequired:
- Valid Driver's License required.
- CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of employment.
- Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Pesticide Applications Certificate 3A & 3B
- Commercial Class B Driver’s License
Work Hours:
- Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, 40 hours per week
