Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state employment law, UNC System and Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Policy Interpretation and Guidance
  • Expert Knowledge: Maintains in-depth knowledge of HR and Employee Relations topics, policies and procedures. Interprets and advises employees on University, OSHR and UNC System policies. Advises employees on a variety of workplace rights related to discipline, grievances and appeals, or other Employee Relations topics.
  • Adaptive Guidance: Explains HR policies and procedures to answer a wide range of questions and provides information regarding various HR matters. This includes navigating unfamiliar or unique situations where prescribed guidance may be limited, requiring sound judgment to find compliant solutions.
  • Program Management: Ensures compliance with the Random Drug and Alcohol Testing program. Manages network of certified mediators and trained hearing committee members.

Workforce Development
  • Performance Consulting: Provides education and consultation on performance management practices
  • Data-Driven Training: Conducts exit interviews, summarizes findings, and proposes strategies for improvement. Gathers and analyzes Employee Relations data to identify trends, potential risk areas, and development opportunities.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver general campus-wide employee relations-related trainings and performance management education.

Consultation on Workplace Issues
  • Conflict Resolution: Consults on a variety of workplace issues such as interpersonal conflict, performance or conduct deficiencies, morale concerns, or departmental concerns.
  • Resolution Coordination: Facilitates resolution options such as disciplinary actions, training, resource referrals, and informal and/or facilitated discussions. Proactively monitors and follows up on individual situations to ensure follow-through on recommended actions and disciplinary steps.
  • Strategic Partnership: Serves as an HR business partner to department leaders on organizational and day-to-day concerns.

All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S. Appointment Type 1.0 Work Schedule/Hours Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. May occasionally work outside standard business hours to meet the needs of second and third shift employees.
