We are looking for a talented Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) for the school year.

Hourly Rate Range: $39.00-$60.00 per hour

Responsibilities would include:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired in one-on-one, small-group, and inclusive classroom settings.
  • Conduct and contribute to assessments related to students’ visual functioning, learning media, accessibility needs, and educational progress.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provide input regarding accommodations and services under Section 504, as applicable.
  • Teach Braille, assistive technology, compensatory skills, sensory efficiency skills, and other areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum.
  • Introduce and reinforce orientation and mobility concepts in collaboration with a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, when applicable.
  • Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats, including Braille, large print, audio, tactile, and digital formats.
  • Support students in using assistive technology, visual aids, and accessibility tools to participate in the educational environment.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, therapists, families, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain service documentation, and adjust instructional strategies based on individual student needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, eligibility determinations, and educational planning.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with Arizona Department of Education requirements, district policies, Section 504, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field.
  • Valid Arizona educator certification authorizing instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired in Birth–Grade 12, such as:
  • Arizona Visually Impaired Special Education Certificate, Birth–Grade 12; or
  • Arizona teaching certificate with a Visually Impaired, Birth–Grade 12 Endorsement.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Braille consistent with Arizona certification requirements.
  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology, accessible instructional materials, and the Expanded Core Curriculum.
  • Previous experience working with school-aged students who are blind or visually impaired is preferred.
