JOB SUMMARY
The EKG Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring patients' heart rhythms and oxygen saturation levels using telemetry systems to detect and report any abnormal or life-threatening changes. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to multitask in a fast-paced hospital environment, and excellent communication skills to relay critical information to healthcare providers.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Education
    High School Diploma or GED
    Completion of an EKG/Telemetry training course or at least one year of experience as a telemetry monitoring technician required.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification, course by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required Upon Hire
Preferred
  • Experience
    Previous experience in a hospital or acute care setting
    Experience with telemetry monitoring systems and recognizing life-threatening arrhythmias
    Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), such as EPIC or Cerner
  • Licenses and Certifications
    National EKG Certification Upon Hire

JOB DUTIES
  • Continuous Monitoring:
    • Monitor multiple patients‿ heart rhythms and oxygen saturation remotely using telemetry systems.
    • Identify and document arrhythmias, ischemic changes, and lethal dysrhythmias.
    • Respond promptly to alarms and alerts, notifying appropriate medical personnel.
  • EKG Procedures & Documentation:
    • Assist with 5-lead EKG placements when needed.
    • Document telemetry strips and ensure accurate charting in the patient‿s record.
  • Communication & Patient Safety:
    • Relay urgent findings to the primary nurse or Rapid Response Team.
    • Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Ensure HIPAA compliance by protecting patient information.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
    • Ensure telemetry monitors and leads are properly placed and functioning.
    • Assist in troubleshooting telemetry unit malfunctions.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Recognize and report life-threatening cardiac events.
    • Assist medical teams in emergency situations by providing rhythm strips and real-time data.
  • Other Duties:
    • Provides orientation for new staff and students in the work areas.
  • Performs other dutie as assigned.
