Barnet and Southgate College is seeking motivated, dynamic, and inspirational individuals to join us as an Education Support Specialist. This role is central to our mission of transforming lives through education.

As an ESS, you will:
  • Support curriculum teams by covering classes when needed
  • Support students’ personal and social development.
  • Help them build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive in college and beyond.
  • Work closely with curriculum teams, pastoral staff, and student services to promote positive behaviours and attitudes.
Your impact will help shape students into successful, productive citizens ready for the future.
Minimum qual - i.e. relevant Level 3 or equivalent with grades 4-9 in English and Mathematics or equivalent. Proven knowledge of the issues facing young people today and the ability to support and encourage them to remain on programme.  Good experience of delivering both workshops, small group work and 1:1s across the softer skills and the social, emotional and personal issues.

Key Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POST:

The Education Support Specialist (ESS) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall student experience by supporting learners' studies, as well as supporting them to improve their behaviours and attitudes in order that they can become successful and productive citizens. Working closely with curriculum teams, pastoral staff, and student services, the ESS helps to maintain continuity of learning by stepping in to deliver high quality classes in cases of staff unavailability, and assists students build the confidence, resilience, and skills necessary to succeed both in college and beyond.

This role will be campus based and sit within a ‘Personal Development and Behaviour’ Team:

• To cover sessions for designated groups of students across the college.
• To support curriculum areas and students through whole-class delivery, small group work, and targeted workshops to maximise engagement with their learning and development and in accordance with curriculum area directions.
• To contribute to a dynamic independent study and enrichment programme that promotes student achievement, wellbeing, and progression.
• To act as part of the wider Personal Development Coaching Team in a supportive capacity.
• To monitor and support student attendance and progress through regular contact with students, parents, and carers, ensuring full engagement with their programme of study.

Gym Facilities

Our Sports Centre at Southgate Campus is available for all staff with cardio, strength and conditioning equipment. The 2-floor gym is free for members of staff to use Monday to Friday within term time.

A range of competitively-priced hairdressing services are accessible at our Colindale Campus. Regularly providing special staff offers which is convenient during lunch hours or after work.
