External Supply Manager – O’Hara, PA
PURPOSE
The Sr. External Supply Manager (Sr. ESM) is the Bayer representative and operations interface to the external contract manufacturing partner (CMO). The incumbent drives the daily operations at the contract manufacturers in support of robust market supply of globally and/or locally marketed products in accordance with the principles of the Dynamic Shared Ownership (DSO) of the External Supply Management (ESM) Capability Cluster.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner & liaise efficiently with assigned CMOs and drive end-to-end relationship with the CMO across entire product lifecycle to ensure efficient, robust and economically optimized product supply;
• Oversee the contractual obligations towards assigned CMO and ensure adherence. Manage, monitor and record the performance of all aspects of the CMO, actively drive continuous improvement in routine operations and ensure all KPI’s are met;
• Lead and drive performance of the Bayer/CMO cross functional operations team. Supervise and direct the external partners in daily operation, perform the monthly business reviews and maintain the technical/ operational knowhow leadership of externally manufactured products/compounds;
• For products at assigned CMO(s) ensure adherence and up to date documentation (eg. CMC, mfg, design). Ensure timely, accurate and cGMP/ISO compliant documentation of production and that standards and requirements of Bayer, cGMP, HSE & Health Authorities are met;
• Review and align the production schedules for assigned CMOs and products with Product Supply and PS Product Team and ensure agreed inventory levels as well as on time and in full (global) market supply with GMP compliant quality products. ESM project management tasks;
• If assigned, act as project leader managing projects at CMOs. Lead the establishment of the overall strategic and tactical concept including e.g. risk evaluation and business case preparation. Continuously track progress and drive seamless execution aiming to maximize synergies and value creation for the project and the product;
• Establish, lead and drive performance of the cross-functional Project Teams in line with Bayer DSO values. Set priorities for the team, ensure clear deliverables and drive end-to-end collaboration across involved functions. Chair regular project team meetings, facilitate end-to end project planning and ensure adherence to Bayer project management standards. ESM Value stream lead tasks;
• If assigned, act as Value Stream Lead (VSL) for selected externally manufactured products. Apply product centricity and represent ESM within the PS Product Leadership Team as well as the product strategy and requirements within ESM;
• Take accountability for the agreed product strategy and associated outcomes, ensure end-to-end implementation in ESM achievement of all product-ESM related supply targets (COGS, inventory, supply volumes, lead times, scrapping, projects and environmental footprint);
• Communicate effectively towards Product Leadership Team(s) and stakeholders. Ensure continuous risk & mitigation planning and appropriate communication and escalation of issues to management. Drive issue and/or conflict resolution by finding constructive approaches.

- Proactively develops positive team relations climate. May coach and counsel product and project team members in assignments relative to changing priorities, sense of urgency and utilization of multiple skills sets;

WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Scientific degree (eg. MSc, BSc) in Pharmacy, (Bio-)Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, (Process-) Engineering or related field. MBA is a plus;
- At least 7 years of experience within (Radio-) Pharmaceutical / Device / Chemical manufacturing, Technical functions or development.
- Able to manage highly complex business relationships, products and/or product networks as well as projects with high financial and/or strategic impact;
- Excellent pharmaceutical know-how (process technology, production, general regulations e.g. ICH) and sound knowledge of good manufacturing practices (GMPs);
- Good knowledge on business administration processes (controlling, value contribution);
- Business and contractual fluent in English;
- Proven leadership and negotiation skills as well as good project management skills;
- Experienced in leading and working with international, interdisciplinary teams (internal / external matrix organizations);
- High degree of autonomy in tasks, but team-worker and good skills in cross-functional work relationships;
- High resistance to pressure resulting from timelines, complexity and ambiguity. Ability to handle and resolve situations with multiple suddenly emerging issues.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $154,640.00 to $231,960.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
