Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Operational Technology, Data & Automation to provide enterprise-wide technical leadership across operational technology (OT), industrial data systems, automation, digital mining technologies and operational analytics.
Based in Brisbane, this role serves as a trusted technical advisor to both corporate and site leadership teams, driving the adoption of innovative technologies that enhance safety, productivity, reliability and operational performance across underground and surface mining operations.
Working across Operations, Technical Services, Maintenance, Safety, Digital Technology and Project Delivery, you will lead the identification, evaluation and optimisation of technology solutions including automation, industrial communications, fleet management systems, operational data platforms, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and remote operating capabilities. You will play a key role in ensuring technology investments are practical, scalable, secure and aligned to business value and operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide enterprise-level technical leadership across operational technology, automation, industrial data and digital mining systems.
- Champion the safe application of OT, automation and digital technologies to reduce exposure to critical hazards and strengthen operational controls.
- Review and provide technical assurance on OT architectures, standards, specifications, capital projects and vendor solutions.
- Identify, evaluate and implement automation, tele-remote, autonomous and digitally enabled mining technologies.
- Develop and contribute to technology roadmaps aligned with strategic priorities, operational readiness and site capability.
- Drive the adoption of operational data, analytics and AI-enabled solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Provide specialist technical input to studies, business cases, due diligence activities, stage-gate reviews and major project delivery programs.
- Support OT cybersecurity, industrial network architecture, vendor access governance, network segmentation and operational resilience.
- Mentor site-based OT professionals, engineers and technical specialists, fostering knowledge sharing and sustainable capability development.
Qualifications
You will bring a strong technical foundation, a practical operational mindset, and the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams. You will be adept at translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for operational leaders, technical specialists and senior stakeholders, ensuring safety, reliability, scalability and business value remain central to decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications or professional certifications in automation, cybersecurity, project management, operational technology, or related fields will be highly regarded.
- 10+ years of experience in operational technology, industrial automation, digital mining, industrial control systems, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated success working within mining, processing, or heavy industrial environments across multiple operations, sites, or projects.
- Proven capability delivering technology initiatives from concept and business case development through implementation, commissioning, handover, and value realisation.
- Strong technical expertise across OT architecture, industrial control systems, PLC, SCADA, DCS, telemetry, historians, and supervisory systems.
- Sound understanding of industrial communications infrastructure, including fibre networks, LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, radio, mesh networks, and underground connectivity solutions.
- Experience with mining fleet management, dispatch systems, machine guidance, asset health monitoring, autonomous operations, or tele-remote technologies will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of operational data platforms, advanced analytics, AI-enabled decision support, and OT cybersecurity principles.
- Mining industry experience is strongly preferred, with exposure to both underground and surface mining environments highly desirable.
