The Greensboro Fire Department is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Fire Lube Technician to perform preventive maintenance and mechanical service on the Department's fleet of fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles. The Fire Lube Technician performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and mechanical service on fire apparatus and medium- and heavy-duty emergency vehicles in accordance with NFPA 1071 standards. This position helps maximize fleet reliability through scheduled maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, documentation, and mechanical repairs that ensure emergency equipment is always ready to respond.

• Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance on fire apparatus and emergency response vehicles.
• Complete inspections and accurately document maintenance activities using Fleet Management Software.
• Inspect, diagnose, and assist with repairs on gasoline- and diesel-powered emergency vehicles and equipment.
• Assist with repairs involving drivetrains, steering systems, suspension components, wheel bearings, oil seals, belts, shocks, exhaust systems, and related mechanical systems.
• Assist in diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic systems, including alternators, starters, batteries, ignition systems, and high-voltage generators.
• Inspect, maintain, repair, and recondition hydraulic systems and related components.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications, departmental policies, safety procedures, and applicable NFPA standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate repair recommendations to supervisors and technicians.
• Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment that supports emergency fleet readiness.

• Work is performed in a fleet maintenance shop environment with occasional outdoor assignments.
• Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Position requires exposure to grease, oils, fuels, shop equipment, noise, heat, cold, and varying weather conditions.
• Employees are expected to maintain a safe work environment and comply with all City safety policies and applicable NFPA standards.
• This position is Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

•  High School Diploma or GED 
  • "OR" an equivalent of an ASE Medium/Heavy Duty Truck T8 Preventative Maintenance Inspection Certification "AND" less than one year of related experience in fleet maintenance (e.g., inspect, diagnose, and/or locate mechanical difficulties on automobiles, trucks, and a variety of gasoline- and/or diesel-powered maintenance and construction equipment)
• Valid Class C Driver's License
• 1+ years of preventative maintenance experience in Fleet service vehicles (e.g., inspecting, diagnosing, and/or locating mechanical difficulties on commercial trucks, hydraulic motors, a variety of gasoline- and/or diesel-powered maintenance and construction equipment).
• Class A  Driver's License 
  • ("OR" the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date)
• NC Inspection License 
  • ("OR" the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date) 
•  Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills (e.g., identifying critical chassis parts like ball joints, tie rods, air brake lines, and U-joints during a routine under-vehicle grease job, etc.)
• Own your tools and tool storage
