Within our Smart Infrastructure business, we are shaping the future of Australia's energy infrastructure, delivering market-leading technologies that help customers build smarter, safer and more reliable power networks.

Due to continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Protection Support Specialist to join our Electrification & Automation team based in our brand-new offices in Cremorne, Melbourne.

Reporting to the Service Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in supporting customers across Australia by providing expert technical advice, troubleshooting complex protection systems, and delivering engineering support throughout the entire asset lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity to work with industry-leading technologies, collaborate with global experts, and make a real impact on Australia's critical infrastructure.

About the role

This role offers a diverse mix of technical support, engineering, commissioning and customer engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while building strong customer relationships.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for Siemens Medium Voltage protection systems, managing customer support cases through to resolution.
  • Perform fault analysis, root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions to maximise system performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Siemens factories, Global R&D, customers and internal stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Deliver protection system engineering including design, testing, commissioning, Design-to-Order activities and local product adaptations.
  • Support project delivery and tendering activities by providing specialist protection engineering expertise.
  • Develop technical documentation, engineering reports and deliver training for customers and internal teams.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of protection equipment performance and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Siemens engineering standards, quality requirements and safety procedures.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support roster (additional allowance applies).

About you

You are a technically strong engineer who enjoys working directly with customers to solve complex protection and automation challenges. You combine deep technical knowledge with excellent communication skills and thrive in a collaborative environment.

You will bring

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control & Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with SIPROTEC 3, 4 and 5 protection relays, including configuration, commissioning and troubleshooting using DIGSI.
  • Strong understanding of power system protection principles, protection schemes, secondary testing and commissioning.
  • Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet communications and substation automation systems.
  • Knowledge of Medium and High Voltage switchgear, primary substation equipment and protection systems.
  • Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and onsite commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, perform fault finding and deliver practical technical solutions.
  • Strong customer focus with excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Power BI or AI-enabled tools is advantageous.
