Job purpose
The Senior Specialist, Lab Technician will drive high-impact outcomes within Mining & Minerals Processing by executing specialized laboratory and technical activities that support innovation initiatives, process improvements, and operational performance. This role contributes to Maaden’s Technology & Innovation strategy by enabling accurate testing, analysis, and technical insights to support process development and optimization.
Key Accountabilities
1. Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Conduct laboratory testing, experiments, and sample analysis in accordance with defined procedures and standards.
- Prepare samples and ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage.
- Record, validate, and analyze test results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
2. Process Support & Technical Execution
- Support metallurgical, mineral processing, and technical teams through laboratory-based insights and data.
- Assist in execution of R&D and pilot testing programs for new processes and materials.
- Contribute to process optimization by providing accurate and timely test results.
3. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper usage and adherence to safety practices.
- Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
- Ensure all equipment is functional, safe, and compliant with operational requirements.
4. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze laboratory results and prepare reports for technical and operational stakeholders.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities based on test data.
- Maintain proper documentation of test results, methodologies, and findings.
5. Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards, environmental policies, and operational procedures.
- Follow quality control protocols and ensure testing accuracy and consistency.
- Support audits and ensure adherence to regulatory and governance requirements.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve laboratory processes, testing methodologies, and efficiency.
- Support implementation of best practices and new technologies in laboratory operations.
- Contribute to innovation and process improvement initiatives within the function.
7. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with metallurgists, engineers, and technical teams to support integrated delivery.
- Share knowledge, results, and insights with stakeholders to support decision-making.
- Contribute to documentation, standardization, and knowledge management.
Minimum Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Technical certifications in laboratory operations are an advantage.
Minimum Experience:
- 8–10 years of experience in data governance, master data management, or data management roles within complex organizations.
- Proven experience implementing enterprise data governance and MDM frameworks.
