The Department of Anaesthesiology at Aga Khan University is committed to providing clinical excellence in perioperative care as well as the training of future anaesthesiologists. Our team of trained and well-experienced anesthesiologists aims to provide best possible patient care not only in the operation theatres but also beyond it. With current 35 clinical faculty our department is one of the biggest Anaesthesia departments in country, our faculty is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education and our programs are recognized at national and international level.

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Fellow Medical Officer (Obstetric Anaesthesia) in the Department of Anaesthesiology.

Responsibilities:

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

1. Clinical Responsibilities:

• The fellow will perform all the required clinical duties of providing anaesthesia/analgesia services according to the rotation assigned to him or her. (rotations are mentioned in the manual)
• Operating Room
• Fellow is required to manage the operating room list.
• Perform procedures according to the assigned privileges
• Preoperative assessment: Make sure that all patients scheduled for the operation have their preoperative assessment done Post call rounds: Do postoperative rounds for all the patients after 12-24 hours surgery.
• Coordination of all the high-risk patients. With primary team and preparation of patients and arrangement of postoperative care like arranging of ICU bed and communication with the patient and family.

2. Labor room:

• Providing labor analgesia services to patients requiring anaesthesia services
• During morning rounds. The fellow will be responsible for following all the postoperative obstetric patients done in the last 24 hours and patients who have received epidural services in the last 24 hours.
• The fellow will be responsible for the assessment of next day list and will be responsible for making sure that preoperative assessment is done either in the preoperative assessment clinic or on the floor.

3. On Call:

• Be available on the premises when on-call and attend to all patient related issues and consult
• Handover and takeover charge from the outgoing team
• Communicate patient's clinical status with consultants on-call when needed Fellow will be required to do 5-6 weekdays on call and 1-2 weekend call
• Academic / Scholarly Activities:
• Our obstetric fellowship programme will provide a comprehensive didactic programme which adheres to the core curriculum of obstetric fellowship. Lectures will be held weekly. In addition, journal club, case presentation and morbidity and mortality will be held every 3rd Friday. The fellows will be responsible for presenting and organizing cases and journal club and will be required to attend all teaching activities.
• The fellow Will participate in daily resident/student/fellow didactic sessions. This includes preparing lectures each month.
• Organizing one journal club each month arranging teaching sessions with faculty and participating in daily teaching discussions Supervision of residents in practical aspects of obstetric anaesthetic management Teaching nursing staff.

4. Research:

• The fellow will be encouraged to select the topic from an area of interest in obstetric anaesthesia at the time of joining the fellowship programme. The project will be discussed with obstetric faculty members. The fellow is required to participate in ongoing obstetric audits/research projects, start and complete at least one audit during his/her fellowship training period.
• The fellow is required to coordinate obstetric fellowship committee meeting every month and record the minutes of the meeting.

Requirements:

You must have:

• MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by PMDC
• PMDC valid license
• one year house job or internship
• residency training completed in the primary specialty
• FCPS Part ll
• Obstetric anaesthesia fellow must have completed the required number of obstetric cases and procedures as required by CPSP before joining and should be able to provide documentary evidence of the same.
• Adequate basic science knowledge
• Adequate knowledge of clinical anaesthesia and obstetric anaesthesia
• Ability to apply clinical knowledge of anaesthesia/ analgesia for obstetric patients
• Ability to perform patient assessment including history taking and physical examination
• Knowledge to develop obstetric anaesthesia/analgesia management plan
• Procedural skills to be able to perform assigned procedures
• Good interpersonal skills
• Commitment to practice according to basic principles of medical ethics.
