The role of Code Compliance Officer is technical and administrative work in the investigation, inspection, and evaluation of County codes pertaining to environmental and land development and use activities. Main duties for this role include determining compliance with codes for the allowed land uses within residential, professional, commercial, and industrial zones; locates and investigates complaints and enforces codes pertaining to land use and environmental violations. The ideal candidate for Code Compliance Officer will possess basic knowledge in code enforcement, land use permitting, general law enforcement, corrections, and/or general military law investigations.
- Knowledge of land development and use, and environmental codes.
- Working knowledge of plans interpretation, specifications, codes, and regulations pertaining to land development use and the environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with complainants, applicants, violators, public bodies, and the general public.
- Ability to make use of a personal computer through diverse software applications.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to present facts and express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare detailed written reports.
- Ability to document, collect evidence and present findings in a court of law.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate degree in criminal justice OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years' experience in code enforcement, land use permitting, general law enforcement, corrections and/or general military law investigations.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must have the ability to obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) Level I certification or equivalent.
