Corporate Counsel
Build Our Legal Function From the Ground Up
Why This Role Exists
Yomali relied entirely on outside counsel until early 2026, when we brought in our first General Counsel to build the function internally. She's now stretched across the operational and the strategic — everything from offer letters to M&A support — with no one to hand the day-to-day to. This role is the second hire in our legal department, created to take on the core legal workload so our GC can focus on the strategic work only she can do. If you want to help shape what "legal" looks like at a fast-moving, privately held group rather than inherit someone else's system, this is that role.
What You'll Own
Own the day-to-day contract lifecycle for commercial, vendor, procurement, and customer agreements across Yomali's businesses.
Provide practical HR and employment support, including offer letters, policy questions, and disciplinary and termination guidance, escalating complex or multi-jurisdiction matters to the General Counsel or outside counsel.
Serve as the first line of response for consumer complaints and regulator inquiries (including state Attorneys General), escalating anything that needs litigation or outside counsel involvement.
Handle general corporate housekeeping: entity maintenance, corporate resolutions, and basic trademark and IP administration.
Build and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and self-service tools that give the business confidence to move on routine matters without waiting on legal.
Partner with HR, marketing, operations, and product as a responsive, practical business partner who teams want to loop in early.
Flag issues to the General Counsel with clear risk framing and a recommended path forward, taking on new areas of ownership as the legal function and team mature.
What Success Looks Like
First 60 days: onboarding and getting exposure across the full legal remit.
3–6 months: you've touched every part of the role, working closely with the GC to support you.
12 months: you're fully trusted to run your remit independently, escalating to our GC only when it genuinely matters.
What We're Looking For
A JD (or equivalent) and license or qualification as an attorney, solicitor, or barrister in the United States, Canada, England & Wales, or Ireland.
Minimum 4 years of in-house counsel experience as a generalist (this role suits candidates from mid-level through senior generalist experience) ideally at a consumer-facing or technology business, with direct exposure to commercial contracts.
Hands-on experience independently drafting and negotiating a high volume of commercial and vendor contracts.
Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals, including offer letters, terminations, and policy questions; multi-jurisdiction employment exposure is a plus.
Comfort building your own process where formal playbooks don't exist yet.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the judgment to give clear recommendations, resolve what you can, and escalate when needed.
Nice to have:
Experience responding to consumer complaints or regulatory inquiries (state Attorney General offices, Better Business Bureau, or similar).
Experience at a consumer-facing ecommerce, marketplace, subscription, or consumer SaaS company.
Exposure to consumer protection, marketing, subscription, payments, data privacy, or ecommerce regulatory issues.
Basic trademark/IP or data privacy exposure.
Experience building templates, playbooks, or self-service tools for a growing legal function.
Comfort working across US, Canada, UK, and Ireland legal and regulatory contexts.
Who Thrives Here
People who treat ambiguity as normal, not a problem to be escalated away. Our best legal team members will ask probing questions that get to the real issue, offer more than one path to a solution, and are genuinely comfortable working in the grey areas rather than waiting for a perfectly defined process. If you'd rather stay purely advisory and let someone else own the business outcome, this isn't the seat for you — we need someone who takes ownership of what happens next.
Why People Love Working Here
Our legal team is being built, not inherited — which means the person in this role has real influence over how it takes shape. Our GC leads with a coaching, supportive, collaborative style, and this role comes with genuine room to grow as the function matures around you. You'll work across HR, marketing, operations, and product, giving you visibility into the whole business rather than a narrow legal silo.
What's In It For You
Competitive salary, benchmarked to your location and experience.
A seat close to the ground floor of a legal function you help define.
Direct mentorship from our General Counsel.
Meaningful growth trajectory as the department scales.
Flexible location: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, or Ireland.
Interview Process
Initial conversation with our Talent team.
Interview with our General Counsel.
Panel conversation with cross-functional stakeholders.
Final conversation with senior leadership.
