The City of Norfolk’s Parking Division is an enterprise fund, which falls under the Department of General Services. The Parking Division operates over 19,000 public parking spaces located in 14 garages, 10 lots, and more than 500 street spaces.
The Department of General Services is seeking to hire a Meter Revenue Technician to manage the revenue collection, technical support, and structural upkeep of city parking facilities. Under general supervision, this role ensures fiscal integrity by performing daily revenue collection from digital meters and pay stations under strict chain-of custody protocols, as well as responding to emergencies to verify system functionality. Additionally, the technician performs a variety of electrical and mechanical tasks to maintain parking access systems, executes light facility construction and structural maintenance, and handles comprehensive groundskeeping and facility upkeep to keep all locations safe and operational. Examples of duties
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Under general supervision, performs work collecting revenue collection of solar single-space parking meters; multi-space parking pay stations, and 30 off-street digital pay-on-foot (POF), pay-in-lane (PIL) parking revenue devices. Coordinates chain-of-custody protocols in collaboration with the Parking Finance unit for revenue deposit procedures daily.
- Responds to emergency and critical special event situations to collect parking revenues to ensure fiscal integrity and to proactively perform software and revenue equipment system checks to ensure that the devices are functional prior to returning to normal operations.
- Performs a variety of highly technical, electric, electronic, computer, and mechanical tasks related to the installation, modification, operation, support and maintenance of sophisticated parking access and revenue systems.
- Performs facility maintenance by constructing new gate arms and barricades, painting handrails, curbs, exterior, and striping; checking fire extinguishers, stairwells, and parking area oil spots, replacing lights, relocating bumper logs, removing snow and ice, and deadbolts.

- This position is designated as Essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.
