The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare.
Join a team of geological experts who play a critical role in protecting Louisiana’s environment through the review, oversight, and management of complex solid and hazardous waste sites. As a Geologist, you’ll lead subsurface investigations, guide groundwater monitoring and corrective action activities, and provide high-level technical support on some of the state’s most challenging and high-profile permitting projects. Supplemental informationJob Duties:
Direct subsurface investigation, groundwater monitoring, corrective action activities, and permit reviews for assigned solid and hazardous waste facilities.
Evaluate detection, assessment, and corrective action reports; ensure compliance with solid and hazardous waste permit conditions and RCRA commitments.
Provide principal assistance to the Geologist Manager, track permitting and groundwater program issues, and prepare formal technical recommendations.
Serve as a fact or expert witness in hearings and represent the Department at public meetings, presenting groundwater monitoring and remediation information.
Mentor geologists and provide specialized guidance on subsurface interpretations, geological methods, and technical review practices.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.
Domicile: East Baton Rouge
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Geologist 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
- Geologist 1: $22.57 per hour
- Geologist 2: $25.84 per hour
- Geologist 3: $29.59 per hour
