Department Mission:Intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-to-18-year-old at-risk youth, producing program graduates with the values, life skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive Louisiana citizens.WHO WE ARE:
YCP is a voluntary program that target youth who are at risk of not completing high school. We provide an environment for youth so they may focus on completing academic goals while enhancing personal strengths and resiliency. Our program provides a structured environment and teaches discipline, self-control and motivation. We develop the whole person by focusing on 8 core components that support each cadet's personal development: academic excellence, life coping skills, job skills training, responsible citizenship, leader/followership, health & hygiene, physical fitness and service to community.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Duplicate mentor applications and information to be distributed during interviews. Respond to requests for information and mail applications as necessary. Upon the acceptance of new candidates for a class start the process of identifying candidates without a mentor. Send reminders to parents to submit mentor application. Applications received will be entered into the Cadet Tracking database and the mentor applicant will be sent a letter, postcard, or email acknowledging receipt of application and told additional correspondence will be sent after the candidate enrolls on Intake Day. A copy of the authorization for a background check will be made and given to the Supervisor to run the background check on the potential mentor. Mentor handbooks and Mentee training packets will be assembled for the new cycle. Coordinate with parents/guardians of candidates without a mentor about the missing mentor application. ALL candidates must have a mentor. Have mentor applications to give to parents/guardians of candidates without a mentor. Continue entering mentor applications into Cadet Tracking database. Review applications for missing items to be included in first mail out. Phone contact with parents/guardians to gain additional contacts and missing application to achieve week two Recruiting Standards (80%). First mail out to all recruited mentors will be on day 3 (Tuesday). Mail out will include: letter confirming application was received, list of missing items, mentor training reservation form, directions to Camp Minden, and contact sheet with information on office hours, phone numbers, and address to write letters to cadets. Continue to contact the parents/guardians of those without a mentor. Must meet 80% of candidates with a mentor to meet NGB standards by the end of week two. Continue to contact the parent/guardians of those without a mentor. Continue putting in mentor applications in the Cadet Tracking database. Make sure that the case managers have letter writing material with sign sheet for each post res teaching class. Enter cadet letter writing information into Cadet Tracking. Have all materials ready for each mentor training class along with coordinating with the DFAC for lunches and time. Must have 100% of mentors and cadets matched no later than the end of week thirteen. Supply case managers with letter writing material and sign sheet for each week. Mail out mentors information about graduation to include time, location, and near by hotels. Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid driver's license, social security card, and birth certificate. Must be able to pass a drug test. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge in working in Excel and Microsoft Word. Requires working independently with general guidance and the ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers, peers, superiors, and subordinates. Willingness to work weekends and holidays as necessary to support the mission at YCP-CM.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid Driver's License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate
- Must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) Card.
- Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations.
Other periodic travel may be required. - Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
- Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: By submitting an application for employment with the Military Department, the applicant agrees to the following conditions of employment:
