Summary

The Ford Rockwell Library located at 5939 E 9th St. N. has an opening for a part-time clerk position which includes weekend shifts. To be a successful member of our team you must be customer-focused and have a passion for assisting a wide variety of customers in the use of the library and its programs and services. Candidates should have patience, be courteous and demonstrate empathy during all customer interactions, communicate pleasantly and effectively, and bring creativity and energy to all projects. In addition, you must enjoy interacting directly with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds and be adept at understanding the needs of Library customers.

Workdays and Hours: There are two shifts available:
Option A
 
  • Memorial Day – Labor Day
  • Saturday: 9:15am - 2:15pm
  • Monday - Wednesday: 9:15am - 2:15pm
  • Rest of the Year: 
  • Saturday: 9:15am - 2:15pm
  • Sunday: 12:45pm – 5:15pm
  • Monday -Tuesday: 9:15am - 2:15pm
Option B
  • Memorial Day – Labor Day
  • Saturday: 9:45am - 2:15pm
  • Monday - Wednesday: 4:15pm - 8:15pm
  • Thursday: 4:45pm - 8:15pm

  • Rest of the Year: 
  • Sunday: 12:45pm – 5:15pm
  • Monday - Wednesday: 4:15pm - 8:15pm
  • Thursday: 4:45pm - 8:15pm
For Library - Please note: While this position is currently assigned a fixed schedule, shift and work hours are subject to change based on operational needs. Final schedule will be confirmed at the time of hire and may vary depending on department requirements.

  • Perform collection maintenance tasks including shelving, shelf-reading, pulling holds, weeding, and assisting with delivery of materials (sorting and processing) 
  • Provide assistance to customers with accounts, including placing holds on materials, issuing library cards, and resolving account blocks
  • Provide basic tech help to customers including help copying, printing, and faxing
  • Provide information to customers about library and community partner services and resources.
  • Provide reader’s advisory and reference assistance to all ages 
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with other employees and the public
  • Ability to learn, within a short period of time, office practices and procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, community partners, and the public
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrate attention to detail when shelving and shelf-reading to ensure all materials are in their correct location.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and continually learn new skills to best serve the public.
  • Ability to: stand while moving about for up to 8 hours per shift, or stand stationary for up to 2 hours, on carpet, tile or concrete flooring; walk while pushing a loaded book cart weighing up to 250 lbs.; reach, bend, stoop, kneel and squat to arrange materials on shelves; extend arms overhead repetitively to return book, weighing as much as 10 lbs.; repetitively reach across body while handling up to 10 lbs.; and frequently lift to shoulder height, up to 50 lbs. and carry the load up to 5'
Supplemental information

Required Experience and Training

  • Six (6) months of entry level clerical office support work which includes sorting and filing.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

  • Attainment of passing scores on pre-employment tests.

Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.


Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
