The Landeta Lab in the Department of Biology at Indiana University, Bloomington is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. Our department is a large, unified department with world-class research spanning all levels of biological organization and diverse experimental systems. Our lab in Microbiology investigates the processes that take place in the bacterial cell envelope with emphasis into oxidative protein folding. The overarching goal for this position is to make timely progress on our NIH and CFF grants (https://reporter.nih.gov/search/kpoQKsh8Pkqp4S1_RS1-PQ/project-details/11259946), which looks for fundamental insights into novel oxidative reactions, the exported proteins that depend on disulfide bonds, the substrate specificity among thiol-disulfide oxidoreductases and finding novel inhibitors against oxidative folding. We are excited about science and looking for another positive, curious person to join our team. Core topics to work on: (1) In vitro assays to determine inhibitor efficacy against redox membrane proteins (2) Cysteine enrichment of DsbA substrates in E. coli and Mycobacteria using proteomics. (3) determine differences between DsbA proteins of two model organisms, E. coli and M. smegmatis (4) Establishing termini restraining for inhibitor-protein crystallography in collaboration with Prof. Weikai Li. Other general responsibilities include: Supervising undergrads; managing general lab operations; writing up research (e.g. for our annual reports or for manuscripts); presenting findings at lab meetings, microphiles, retreats and conferences; and participating in lab meetings.
Basic Qualifications Education and Experience Required: PhD
Qualifications: Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D., in microbiology, biochemistry, biology, or a related field, with a strong interest in studying oxidative protein folding in bacteria and targeting this process in pathogens. High degree of initiative, time management and professionalism, very organized and detail-oriented with proficient communication skills, written and oral and ability to work effectively as a team. Experience with microbial genetics, protein purification, in vitro assays, molecular biology, proteomics is desirable. Trainees will receive health insurance as well as a stipend commensurate with experience.
To apply, please submit (1) a cover letter describing your research and educational background, your career goals, why you are interested in this position, and the date you are available to start, (2) a CV highlighting your publications including a brief description of the main findings and how you contributed to the work, and (3) the names and contact info of three references.
